The one I received was already open, coated in oil, and someone drilled a hole in it.

This was bought as an upgrade/ refresh for my custom turbo engine in a VW air cooled Beetle. Previously I had a similar looking KN filter, although it didn't have the extra pleat area at the end which is a nice improvement for air flow. I ended up trimming the snout of this filter down about a half inch which was easily done with an Olfa knife. And then I used my Dremel with a half inch round sand paper cylinder bit to smooth out the inside of the snout to better slide on since there were ribs in the rubber inside which hindered the fitting of the rubber over the aluminum pipe end. Quite easily done and now sits proudly on my engine. I haven't had to clean it yet as it still looks new after one half a season of driving, but I have the AEM cleaner ready to go and looking forward to trying that out. Good purchase and upgrade from the old KN.

works as advertized. fits well under hood. I have tried to wash it and it is so easy. I think it can add some hp to car, but not too much :)
