My translator’s screen is protected by a pre-applied screen protector. I only had to peel off the mask on top of it. The only other accessory I found was a foot long USB-C charging and data cable.I could use the translator right away as it had a charge of 65%. I pressed the power button for a few seconds and it booted up quickly and played a short welcome sound. I got to select my interface language and I had to connect it to my WiFi. Entering my WiFi password was a bit cumbersome as I didn't have a regular keyboard but more like one from a digital landline phone. For example, to enter the letter H, I had to tap the button with the number 2 with the four letters e, f, g and h below it. Then five blue keys popped up arranged in circular fashion with the number 2 in the middle and the letters around it. It took a while to enter my long WiFi password but at least entering numbers was quicker as they were located in the center. At least, it connected almost instantly to my WiFi once I entered my password.The next step was to set up the date and time. It was set to automatic time and time zone but the wrong time zone was selected. I set it temporarily to manual and I selected the right time zone and put it back to automatic.That was the last setup step and I landed after a few seconds to the main screen where I saw Online Translation, Offline Translation, Photo Translation, ChatGPT, Group Translation, Recording, Realtime Translation, Phone Translation, Offline package management and Settings.When I tap on Online Translation, I can translate from hundreds of languages. The interface is intuitive. One language is in blue color, the other in red. For example, I have English in blue, Japanese in red color, I tap on and hold the blue microphone on the screen or press the blue button on the right side as long as I finish my sentence, then the device translates what I spoke to Japanese and the translation appears in red colored text.In offline translation, I have limited number of languages to choose from. But I didn't notice any difference on how fast it translates.Photo translation is quick for a few sentences. I tested it for a long paragraph. The camera has a high enough resolution that I could take a clear picture from a word file on my PC. After taking the picture, I could crop it. The devices optical recognition was nearly perfect. It only missed a few spaces but no errors in letters and numbers. Further, it saves the image taken and superimposes the translation on the original text so I could see both, the original and translation.The ChatGPT inclusion surprised me and I tapped on it out of curiosity. As I see it, its more designed for general help, not translating. I could choose from an Q&A Teacher, Interview simulator, Programmer, Family Doctor and Fitness Instructor. But no matter which one I chose, I could ask random questions too and I received answers.Group translation is something I couldn't test because I would have to link other translators to my device.Realtime translation works but when I speak fast, I see my speech translation lagging a bit. The translator displays what I'm saying in both, the original and translation in text. The translator can read aloud when I press the speaker icon next.Phone translation shows me a QR code to scan with my phone. It sends me to a chat interface where I can type or speak and then see it on my translator. I think that could be useful when I want to chat with someone who is not next to me. I can send him the QR code via text or social media to invite to such a chat session.When I swipe left on the home screen, I get two more options: Offline package management and Settings. In offline package management, I can download several language packs for offline translation. I can insert an SD card in case there's not enough internal space for more offline language packs.In Settings, I can change brightness, volume, turn off WiFi, enable Bluetooth and connect to an external speaker, mic or any other compatible device. In Sleep, I can select when the screen turns off automatically. I can select when the translator turns off automatically after a certain time of inactivity. I can also access offline package management in settings. Under Language, I can switch to a different interface language. I can change Date and Time, clear data, see how much internal and external storage I have. Under About us I can see the serial number, app version, firmware, model and mac address.Depending on usage, the battery life lasts me up to 2 days. I noticed that realtime translation drains the battery fastest. On standby with minimal use, I estimate it lasts 2 days but the device turns off automatically after a certain time of inactivity.
