These are a great replacement for the RV water heater door latch. They are not, however, self explanatory and even the directions on the website are not completely clear. However, a you tube video was easy to find and made it completely easy to install.If the old latch has fallen off or broken, these will fit exactly as a replacement. The spring slips down to allow the latch to be removed and then once the part with the spring is inserted from the inside of the door, the spring allows the latch to be replaced on the outside of the door and folded down to hold the door closed.This part is made entirely of metal, so it will last for a long time.

These spring loaded slip-and-twist latches are a required touch for your vintage RV restoration project. Mine is a 1963 Airstream, and these were a joyful find.They are seconds of effort to install (knowing the secret - slightly shove the blade down the shaft while compressing the spring from the back, and they separate into blade, shaft and spring).They are well made, and we will see how they do as far as corrosion.The price includes a bit of profit for the maker, but these are unique to the need... I will be buying more.

I ordered these to replace a broken water heater door latch on my travel trailer. The original was either made of plastic or nylon which always seemed flimsy to me. Last trip out with the trailer and the latch snapped off. These are metal tabs with a metal spring to secure the latch so they should be much more durable. I ran into some difficulty with installation. The new latch securing pin is too large to fit the hole inside the water heater. In order to make it fit, I had to drill out the hole in the latch with a 3/8" drill bit. In order to seat latch it is necessary to compress the "v" shaped pin that holds the latch in place with needle nose pliers.

11-13-23If you've ever lost your $50 plus dollar water heater door, due to the plastic tab dry rod and getting brittle and cracking off then you know the value of a stainless steel latch.It doesn't state the quality of the stainless steel used, but they are magnetic, even the spring, so there is some ferrous metal which may rust over time and weather conditions.I'll have to report back if that occurs.It's a great investment considering the alternative to the cost of replacing the door then the burden hunting one down.Hopefully this was helpful, Thank you!
