I've used a ton of boots in the past, including the high end of the price spectrum all the way down to the measly $120 range. Recently, I went to buy all new gear from my local shop and had planned on spending something like $1500 total. Unfortunately, my local shop had nothing but entry level gear (super cheap), so even though I only spend about $700, I was disappointed in not getting the top of the line gear. Now, I'm fine with some of the gear, but the boots were absolutely horrible. They were right around $200, and they were the Fox Comps. The fit was okay, but the strap system was absolutely atrocious. It was a struggle to put them on every single time, so I resolved to get a new pair. I've owned Alpinestar Tech 8's in the past and loved them, but I wasn't sure how the Tech 5's would do. I contemplated forking out the additional cash for another pair of Tech 8's, but decided against it since I had already spent $200 on the Comps. My word, the strap system on the Tech 5's is easily the best I've ever used, and I genuinely can't remember if it's the same on the Tech 8's, but these 5's are perfect. They also fit like a perfect pair of gloves. In terms of sizing, I wear a 10.5 in shoes, but the 11's fit me perfect for the Tech 5's. I haven't used these boots a substantial amount, but if this review remains unedited, just assume I still love them. Easily the best "bang for your buck" purchase I can remember in recent history.
