Kids like making music and this is a pretty afordable way to get them started. It's also nice because this doesn't have to remain inside like other musical instruments, so if you start to be annoyed with the "music making" or noise you can have them just play with it outside.

super good for beginners It's just hard to play loud. to be fair if you want a good loud forever recorder you have to spend the extra money for a wood factory made recorder.

A joyful instrument. I play it using descant keying as it was a purchase to lower the tone so to annoy family members less / be less shrill while playing. The tone is superb for an inexpensive plastic block-flute and the weight is great. It feels much more solid than most school instruments.Assembly is a bit strange. The piece for the right pinky is separate from both the bell and the rest of the right hand. Negative: it is almost impossible to adjust that piece at its top on my unit even though I've waxed that connection thoroughly as I did with the rest. I'd knock off a tiny part of a star, but I don't know how to do that and am satisfied with the purchase, so five stars it is.It comes with all the things you'd expect: a fingering chart, a lint-free cloth, a cleaning stick. I did not expect the soft zipper case, which was a pleasant surprise. Although it's not a fantastic case and has two oddly separated sections, it gets the job done in keeping the pieces together and away from the other cases in my collection.Very happy with my new instrument. I just wish the bottom hole piece fit a bit better. As a makeshift, I just keep it permanently attached to the piece above it and remove the bell when packing.

My son has taken an interest in music thanks to his amazing music teacher. He was able to try a recorder and a ukulele, and put both items on his Christmas list. I didn't want to invest a lot until I see if his interest remains so I was very happy to come across this recorder. It's an incredible value considering how well constructed it is. I am not musically inclined, but this produces a really nice sound. My husband and I had fun testing it out before I wrapped it, and it's a lovely little instrument. It's easy to disassemble for cleaning, and goes back together easily. The color is very neutral so it doesn't look like a child's toy. I didn't realize it came with a carry bag, so that was a nice surprise. This recorder is a great way to encourage a love for music without a major financial investment.

The listing of this (as it is now) is so confusing. Is it an Alto recorder, or Soprano? Is the fingering Baroque or German? Is it Ivory White or Light Green?I can only report on what I got, which thankfully was exactly the combination of those that I was hoping for, an alto baroque recorder in ivory white. It has a decent quality feel to it, and weighs about 7.9 ounces, or almost half a pound.I have multiple soprano recorders, and have wanted an alto one for quite some time. Unfortunately, I can't compare this to other alto recorders since it's my first one. But I did test the main scale (F to F) with a tuner, and it is correct. As for playing, I find it harder to play than a soprano recorder. The finger spacing is larger, and it's harder (for me, anyway) to hit high and low notes. With practice, I'm getting a feel for the instrument and am doing better, so I don't think it's the instrument itself, especially since the easy scale is in tune.Something more experienced recorder players may want to know is, does it have a straight or arched windway? It is straight.Overall, I'm really happy with this recorder, and am enjoying having a recorder with what I consider a more pleasant (lower) sound range. The reason I took off one star is due to an appearance issue. The words "Shenzhen Zhangsheng Industrial Co., Ltd" are printed along over 4.25" of the center piece in black printing, on the back center. I can understand there being a maker's mark, but the size of this really takes away from the appearance of the instrument. Other than that, though, I really like it.
