The Amaran aluminum light stand with boom arm is light weight but very sturdy and extremely easy to set up for lights, small cameras, or microphone gear. It is rated to hold up to 11 lbs. You can pull it out to a max height of 12.7 feet (main pole + boom arm extended up) making this very tall, as well.I was a bit confused when I saw just the stand and no boom arm. But don't worry, the boom arm is not a separate piece, it's a part that pulls out from the top of the stand! Just loosen the top screw and pull it out. The boom arm can pivot 180 degrees to point almost straight up or downThe main pole (minus boom arm) pulls up to max height of around 119" or 9.9 feet. By pointing the boom arm almost straight up, that gives you another 3 feet or so. For connecting your gear, the boom arm has the typical double-ended pin which is reversible between a 1/4" pin and 3/8" pin and it can be inserted into one of 3 provided holes, one that comes out of the very end (parallel to the boom arm) or 2 that point out from the sides of the boom arm.An empty sand bag is included. You can fill and use it as a counterbalance for cameras or lights placed on the boom arm. The bottom support legs can be adjusted to be spread very wide or not too wide, depending on your needs. The pole can be adjusted to whatever height you need, up to the max 12.7 feet (main pole + boom arm extended up). It can be collapsed down to a compact 3.8 feet. The best thing about this stand with boom arm is the strong, but light weight aluminum construction and the small collapsed length. This is a very handy, portable stand WITH a boom arm. Note that it does lack a carry bag but you can get a tripod carry bag for it.

This is a really well built Boom Arm Stand that will last for years!!! The tubing is sufficiently thick, the compression joints are all made of solid metal, and even the articulating joint is metal. NO PLASTIC!With the arm completely vertical, this unit will be a more than 12.5 feet tall. With the boom arm completely horizontal this is right around 9 feet tall. The tripod is easy to open and close, and is stable compared with other boom arm tripods of this type. A heavier c-stand will be a little sturdier, but with the provided sandbag this is perfectly capable of supporting microphones, softboxes, and lights. Storage and transport is much easier when shooting on location than a with a C stand.A few other not so important but neat features....- The finish is nice semi gloss black- The switchable adapter on the end (1/4" and 3/8") is not simply round, it has a flat spot on one side for extra sturdiness when tightening with the set screwThe main feature I wish this had that it's missing is air cushioned collapsing. But for the price, I feel the build quality, size, and features are great. Not the cheapest you can find, but very good quality and value at the price point of $100-$120.

This light stand has been useful for basic photography setups, but it does have some limitations. The height adjustability to 9.2ft is great for different lighting needs, and the boom arm is a nice addition for overhead shots. It’s also compatible with a variety of equipment like soft boxes, ring lights, and cameras, which adds versatility. However, I noticed that the stand can feel a bit wobbly, especially when fully extended. Even with the included sandbag, it doesn’t feel as stable as I’d like when holding heavier lights or gear close to its 5kg max load. The aluminum build is lightweight, which is convenient for transport, but that also means it’s not the sturdiest option available.Overall, it’s a decent stand for lighter setups or controlled indoor environments, but if you’re working with heavier gear or need rock-solid stability, you might want to consider a more robust option.

The **Amaran Aluminum Light Stand** is a highly versatile and durable photography accessory that caters to a wide range of lighting and camera setups. Constructed primarily from aluminum alloy and iron, it feels solid and stable, with a thickened tube diameter that ensures a reliable maximum load capacity of 5kg (11 lbs). This makes it ideal for supporting heavy equipment like softboxes, studio lights, ring lights, and even cameras. One of the best features is its **adjustable height**—from 130cm to 280cm (roughly 4.3ft to 9.2ft)—which offers flexibility for different shooting scenarios. Whether you're shooting in a small studio or a larger environment, the height adjustment is smooth, thanks to the efficient flip on/off locks. The stand also folds down to a compact 117cm for easy storage and portability, which is a great bonus for photographers or videographers who need to move their setup frequently. The **180° free-rotation boom arm** is another standout feature. It allows you to easily adjust angles and positions for more creative lighting setups. With separate tilt, pan, and arm lock knobs, you have precise control over how you position the lights or cameras. The 1/4" threaded screw at the end of the boom arm is compatible with various photography devices, adding to its versatility.Stability is further enhanced by the inclusion of an **empty sandbag**. You can fill the sandbag and place it on the stand’s legs for extra stability, preventing any tipping, or use it to balance the boom arm when supporting heavier equipment. The sandbag helps ensure that the stand remains firm, even with heavier lights or cameras mounted on it.Overall, this **Amaran Aluminum Light Stand** is perfect for both professional photographers and content creators who need a reliable, sturdy, and flexible stand. With its multiple mounting options, adjustable height, and portable design, it’s an excellent addition to any studio or on-location setup.
