They are unexpectedly good quality considering the price and are perfect for a recreational or beginning skater. If you take care of them they should last a child 3-4 years. Wipe off the blades after each use and don't reef on the laces or else you'll wear out/loosen the lace grommets (true of any skate). Ask someone at the rink for more maintenance tips. You could also get gel inserts if they are too big. You can also get them if your child complains that the skates are uncomfortable (when they are new) but first check the tightness over the top of the foot above the arch. Often times if it is too tight it will make the arch of the foot hurt.Note: You may need to get them sharpened

I ordered these for my 5 year old son for Christmas. He is a solid size 1 and these fit perfectly. I haven't decided if I'm going to try to return them for a bigger size or not. I'm just a little worried he'll outgrow them in a month...that being said they were a good price and with ice skates you really don't want them too big.
