I read the reviews about the finish flaking off but bought it with the intention of removing the finish. 10 minutes with a piece of steel wool and the brown stuff flaked off and was gone. The wood under it is a dense blonde hardwood, maybe maple. It looked cool; the dark brown finish had soaked into the end grains of the wood, and the rest of the wood looked great after I refinished it with some food grade walnut oil. Easier than trying to carve my own. As another reviewer said, I don't know why they didn't just oil finish it the first time.

This muddler is a classic design, easy to clean, seems like it will last forever because it is basically a shaped wooden stick. It is long enough to use in a cocktail shaker or directly in a glass. It is important to me that it is American made. I would buy this again.

Comes with an extremely difficult sticker placed right on the muddler. The sticker is almost impossible to get off cleanly and will most-likely end up taking off some of the finish with it.

Love this muddler for berries. Flat surface so stuff doesn't get stuck in the teeth; more sanitary.
