The gate is free standing and each panel swings both ways so you can bend it any way you need. It is not sturdy unless you attach it permanently to a wall or doorway. Otherwise if a child were to pull on the gate to stand up it would fall on them. A dog jumping on it would knock it over too. However, it is great as a barrier when the dog gets too playful and chases the cat. The cat escapes to the other side. We use it to block the stairs and the door is easy to open and close.

Awful purchase. The panels are being held together by lose metal, it’s shaky and unstable. The gate portion has a tacky metal piece that is “secured” by crappy thin wood. Not secure at all! We bought two, one gate was broken when we received it. The second one broke after a month from opening the gate, didn’t take much. Opened the gate like normal and the wood snapped off. Don’t waste your money! Especially if you are buying for your little ones. Even for pets it would be a crap purchase, honestly if a dog jumped up on this gate it would either break or tip over. Very disappointed!

When searching for a gate to keep our pugs out of the living room and that would look good, at least from a distance, we eventually chose this gate. We read all the negative reviews, so we knew what to expect, and sure enough the wood is split at the latch and the finish is damaged on one panel. My husband can fix anything and will glue and replace hardware as needed. I'm sure our pugs, if they tried, could get through or past it, but they won't be bothering it--it is really more a visual reminder. Given we bought it for appearance, it does a good job of looking good.

The wood is VERY high quality. The joints however may need some reinforcement after a couple months with more energetic and persistent animals. (like my bunny rabbit) but slap some wood glue back in those babies and clamp them back and this thing will stay sturdy for years. I wanted to keep it stationary because my rabbit shakes it with her mouth. It took me 15 minutes to drill through the darn the thing to fasten it to the wall, the wood is from a very hard species of tree.

This gate is exactly what I needed. I had a tri fold gate before this and that was terribly flimsy. At the time it was great because our puppy was so small and we taught him to respect the gate... Mostly! He never knocked it over, but did a bit of chewing damage. Now that his prey drive has really started to develop, he loses his marbles when he sees rabbits outside through the window. We need a new gate after that and this was it.Great price point, fairly sturdy.. not metal you understand but more than enough if your dog respects the boundaries that you set. The latch didn't quite line up so we shimmed it with some flat washers at the bottom hidnge (picture one) and a crush washer (all we had in the right size) for the top hinge (picture two) . Overall, great buy and great price and packaged very well. Might buy a second for other parts of the house.

Gate is great, sturdy and fits across the opening like we wanted. Very nice looking and easy to open and close.

Works great for our purposes, but the latch is pretty cheap. We had to affix it to the wall as our dogs are just too gifted (aren't they all?) to leave it alone without an anchor. Most golden retrievers can simply push their way through without the added support. What I like: it looks so much classier than the cheap Evenflo ones, which we also have to resort to at times.

This is nice, but it does not stay up if pushed on at all. I got this for my 25 pound dog even a nudge from him could knock it over. It was pretty easy to drill in a hook and latch it to the wall though, so that was a simple fix. But the "deadbolt" door is also pretty weak. Even with the gate secure, when he jumped and put his paws on top, the pressure and weight would tip the gate enough that it would fall open, regardless of which way it was oriented. The deadbolt mechanism is too small and feeble. It just slips just out of place. So it's pretty and all that, but not the most secure or functional. It might be good if you had a toy-sized dog or one that just never jumped.
