Ames Walker Sheer Support Hosiery
Ames Walker Sheer Support compression hosiery

Durable hosiery with graduated compression!

Our Sheer Support compression line is stylish yet functional. No one will ever know you're wearing medical-grade compression hosiery. Made in the USA from Ames Walker, these moderate-to-firm sheer compression stockings are made from fine quality yarns. Plus, they come in a variety of styles, lengths, sizes, and colors so you can have a pair for just about every outfit.

What are the benefits of wearing compression hosiery?

  • Safe, non-invasive, effective and inexpensive treatment.
  • Scientifically designed to regulate blood flow velocity through the feet and legs.
  • Maximum pressure applied at the ankle systematically decreases up the hosiery length, keeps proper venous flow in the legs.
  • Prevents back-flow and stagnation of blood in the lower legs that can cause clotting and heaviness.

What compression level do you need?

Mild Compression 8-15 mmHg

Mild Compression 8-15 mmHg

Mild compression helps relieve achy, fatigued legs, minor varicose or spider veins and helps reduce minor swelling.

15-20 mmHg Moderate Compression

Moderate Compression 15-20 mmHg

Moderate compression is a great starting point for anyone wanting to wear compression hosiery and socks. It's most commonly used for people who travel and it's also beneficial for people who experience achy, fatigued legs, minor varicose or spider veins as well as minor swelling. This level of compression is also beneficial to use before or after vein procedures and can help reduce the risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis ( DVT).

Firm Compression 20-30 mmHg

Firm Compression 20-30 mmHg

Firm compression can help people who suffer from symptoms of lymphedema, moderate swelling , moderate varicose or spider veins, mild venous insufficiency and can also be used to aid in prevention of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT).

Extra Firm Compression

Extra Firm Compression 30-40 mmHg

Extra firm compression is used to aid in the treatment for more serious conditions such as Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI), Post Thrombotic Syndrome (PTS) and Deep Vein Thrombosis ( DVT). This level can also be used to help relieve moderate to severe lymphedema symptoms, active or post venous ulcers and can be used for pre and post vein procedures.

How to measure Ames Walker Sheer Support Compression Hosiery

How to Measure

Measuring first thing in the morning. Measuring later in the day could give you unreliable measurements resulting in ill fitting compression hosiery.

Circumference

A Measure ankle just above the ankle bone.

B Measure calf at the largest point.

C Measure widest part of the thigh.

Length

LE For Knee High, measure from floor to the bend of the knee.

LG For Pantyhose and Thigh High, measure from floor to just below the buttocks.

Measuring Tips

  • Measure first thing in the morning when swelling is minimal.
  • Make sure the measuring tape is firmly across your skin without causing a depression.
  • Keep measuring tape level on the widest part of your limb.

The maternity belly panel is too small/short for even my small, 17 week belly. And I’m petite. So it digs into my belly especially if I sit down. Not comfortable. No chance it’ll work for 3rd trimester, and you can’t size up because they need to fit ankle and thigh circumference for compression.

The belly panel is not tall enough and I’m a small person ( 4’10’’ 140lb) I’m 6 month pregnant. Super uncomfortable because of the belly panel. But the compression and the legs did the job. I had a lot less swelling in my ankles.

The first day I wore these, it was only for a half a day to test them out before a full day at work. They kept sliding down (despite being hiked to the proper height every chance I could get). Despite this, I thought I could handle the occasional uncomfortableness of sagging tights for the benefit of suppressing my varicose vein while at work the next day. Well, they tore and tore big at work (no sharp fingernails came near them, and I put them on properly - I think all of us girls have had lots of practice on how to put on stockings). Out of my frustration at work I decided to throw them out.I contacted the company and on the bright side - they responded quickly, but refused to refund me because I couldn't send them back. I get it, but it's still frustrating. So if you decide to purchase these and they rip, make sure to keep them if you want a refund.

Very difficult to put on. Once I did put them on they were cutting of my circulation, I cannot imagine wearing these when pregnant. Super uncomfortable.

This item came faster than expected. It was listed to take about a week but I got it 2-3 days after ordering, so I was very pleased! I did rip the first pair after a couple weeks, but that was my own fault as I tried to pull up on the thigh part too hard. I am on the second pair now and have used it a few weeks plus I have up to 4weeks left to use them and feel they should last. I have a few tiny runs from walking into things or from pets or kids but some clear nailposh applied did stop it right away. I do find the band that goes over the belly to be a bit tight at times and uncomfortable and it'd be nice if that part went further up or stopped below just for comfort. Overall a great well made product. Check out the Ames Walker website for helpful fitting information!

I purchased the black ones for bulging, painful veins in my calf and thigh at 5 months pregnant. They look just like regular tights and the best part was that I didn't have to wrestle them on, although it did take me 3 minutes or so to work them up my legs. I used them for a week during the day under pants and dresses, but ultimately I stopped wearing them because it was just too many layers to coordinate, what with the maternity pants, the leggings, an undershirt, and a regular shirt, not to mention a sweater and then a jacket sometimes.

I really like these support tights for many reasons- they are more sheer and affordable than the brand I tried from my local medical supply shop (those were thigh highs). I ordered XL based on measurements listed (I was between L and XL) and they fit great. However, probably because of their sheerness I am on my 2nd pair and they already have a few holes (which I stopped from running with nail polish). I am hoping they will last the last few weeks of my pregnancy. They also tend to sag in the crotch throughout the day and trying to pull them up hard is what snagged them. The best thing about them is they work wonders for my varicose veins!! I really notice a difference in bulging and discomfort when I skip a day. Overall I would recommend, but be aware you will probably have to replace them once or twice. Still worth it in my opinion.

I've never had a need to wear compression hose, but with this pregnancy I definitely needed something to help the aches from the varicose and spider veins for the full length of my legs. I do feel like a sausage squeezed into them, but WOW they make my legs feel so much better. I put them on first thing in the morning and my veins don't hurt or swell. They can be a challenge to put on, but I think that's a given with compression hose products. The trick is to turn them inside out and roll them up your legs rather than trying to put your foot in at the top of the leg. I'm very happy with these. The thickness is durable and great for a second layer in fall/winter. The maternity panel helps support my growing belly, though we'll have to see how it fits when I hit the 3rd trimester (6 mths now).
