I bought this a year ago but never used it until a few days ago, I was really happy with how convenient and useful.

4 star because the thread form between the adjustable stud/post and brass "nut" is loose and sloppy. Had to center-punch/peen the brass nut to tighten up on stud otherwise stud/post moves and changes adjustment.

A wonderful tool to check the strength of a spark. I found the threaded rod a bit too loose, if fact, it's way too loose and flimsy otherwise a good product.

Lets you adjust spark gap to test actual output of coil, not just to see if coil is firing. This is better than the typical spark testers at your local parts store.FYI, most all modern coils should fire to 30 on the gauge. If it's down to 27 range, coil is bad. Very helpful when diagnosing ignition coils on the Ford triton engines.

Do not buy this if you are checking the spark on a car, dont even bother if its for a lawn mower. This tester is terribly built. First the threaded pin fits too loosely in the conductor. The problem with this is it creates a lot of resistance and creates a lot of current and this current is then grounded to the engine, or frame or whatever you connect the clip too. In other words BAD. Stay away from this. Secondly the pin is also painted black. They couldn't even get a stainless steel or chrome vanadium pin, just plain old painted pin. Once again, it creates resistance. Just avoid this at all costs. Lastly this tester, as well as all the other ones sold in Amazon, do not use a resistor. All modern spark plugs use a 5k resistor to decrease noise that's back fed into the ECU. Without this resistor you run the risk of damaging your car.

Neat tool but there needs to be a warning attached. Warning: When using on a vehicle that uses a lost or waste spark ignition, do NOT remove more than one spark plug wire at a time, and do NOT open gap wider than what the ignition is able to arch across. Failure to do so will destroy your ignition control module. Hi voltage will seek ground and if it does not find it across the tool or spark plug, it will go backwards through the coil and through the ignition control module. I learned the hard way with that $200.00 mistake. Just be aware of what you are doing, and be careful in how you hook it up. As long as you do that, the tool is awesome. I am very pleased with it, and works beautifully. Highly recommend adding it to your toolbox.

This is a must have for anyone who wants to diagnose if a vehicle or equipment if it has spark. it is much better to use this instead of a spark plug.with the adjustable spark gap you can also tell if the spark is weak also.great tool well constructed.
