About this item

  • Professional stereo microscope with boom arm has long working distance to enables users to perform work or manipulate large items, including circuit boards and dental appliances
  • Binocular viewing head with interchangeable pairs of 5x, 10x, 15x, and 20x widefield eyepieces, adjustable interpupillary distance, and fixed 30-degree vertical inclination to reduce eye and neck strain
  • 1x objective provides low magnification and longer focal length for inspecting large-scale specimens
  • Adjustable gooseneck LED light enables users to direct the light where needed
  • 9" vertical working distance and adjustable 12" boom arm enables users to adjust the microscope on the X- and Y-axes
  • 5X-10X-15X-20X widefield stereo magnification powers
  • 9" large working distance
  • Flexible goose-neck LED light
  • Two pairs of widefield eyepieces included
  • Versatile boom-arm stand

The AmScope SE400XYZ professional stereo microscope has four interchangeable pairs of widefield eyepieces, a 1x objective, LED lighting, and a boom-arm stand. The binocular viewing head has an interpupillary range of 50 to 77mm and a 30-degree inclination to reduce eye and neck strain. The interchangeable pairs of WF5x18mm, WF10x18mm, WF15x13mm, and WF20x10mm eyepieces combine with the 1x objective to provide 5x, 10x, 15x, and 20x magnification, and a longer working distance for inspecting large-scale specimens that require handling or repair. Dioptric adjustment accommodates individual eye-strength differences. A stereo microscope, sometimes called an inspection or dissection microscope, has low magnification and a long working distance that enables users to manipulate the object being inspected.

The 1W LED light is mounted on a flexible gooseneck to enable users to direct the light as needed. An LED light source provides bright, cool light for working with temperature-sensitive specimens. The microscope has a 13.5" pillar that provides a 9" vertical working distance. Bilateral focus eases use for left- and right-handed users. The 17" boom arm has a 12" working distance. The microscope head can be rotated on the X- and Y-axes. All metal construction is durable and stain-resistant.

Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying magnification abilities. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also utilize LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries.

United Scope manufactures microscopy equipment and accessories under the brand name AmScope. The company, founded in 1996, is headquartered in Irvine, CA.

Arrived lightning fast. Packed very well and really easy to put together. Set it up and was using it same day. Wanted to go with a more expensive scope with boom but didn’t have the room. This unit fits perfectly on my work bench and exceeded my expectations.

This unit with the WF 5,15,20 is amazing. perfect focus with at least 9" of clear working room on 20X. The WF optics allows me to see a good [portion of what I'm working on even under 20x. Also, appears to be made of quality materials.

I bought this to work on Surface Mount PCB boards instead of a magnifying glass. I was not sure what magnification I would need, so I bought this one with 4 different magnifications. I discovered that the 5x and 10x magnification are all I needed, but I am disappointed in the 5x mag as it was advertised as wide field, but the image is half the size of the 10x, its not really wide field. The 5x magnification shows exactly the same amount of circuit board as the 10x (same field of view). I wish the 5x mag image filled view so I could see more of the circuit board. The 5x mag is not wide field as in the description. Overall the rest of it is well built, the light is nice.

The AmScope SE400-XYZ is a pretty good stereo microscope. Its stable, the gooseneck LED light is a great feature (though i wish it was dimmable and they had 2 of them) and has a plastic slip cover to protect it from dust.Note that it ships without a manual and i had to contact AmScope to get one, for the price they should include one or at least a link to the file.Without the manual it took a few tries to get it to go together but with a manual i could have done it in a lot less time. Now for the really disappointing part, the 5x eyepieces are virtually useless. The field of view is very constricted and it feels like I'm looking through a straw.I would recommend staying away from the set that includes the 5x and go for the set that has the others. The other eyepieces are excellent. I loosened the set screws holding them in permanently so i can easily swap them. It’s a tiny set screw and I'm sure it will strip if you tighten it over and over, so far i haven't seen a reason to use the set screws anymore.Bottom line is i would recommend it for PCB assembly/QC/Soldering...as long as 10x minimum will work for you.If you need 5x (which i probably do), i would look elsewhere. Other then that, this is a great deal on a really well made microscope.I just wish they would have made it clear that the FOV of the 5x was so constricted.

The microscope pictured on Amazon has a gooseneck light. The item I received has a fixed light mounted by the optics. I needed the gooseneck light, as I am working with watches which are very reflective. The fixed light bounces the light right back at me from the shiny surfaces. The manufacturer's site has a correct picture: [...] . It has the same model number, but different light. The new light has a wire strung across the support and boom and it slides into a hole mounted just behind the eyepieces. There is no way to adjust it. It also happens to look messy and may be prone to catching on things or attack by cats. The opticals work well enough, but the lighting may be a key feature to some folks. The product sample images even show the gooseneck light pointing in from the side for examining a circuit board. You could not do this with the new light.

I needed something better than a magnifier for mounting SMD parts. This microscope fit the bill; good field of view, stable, bright light. I'm happy.

It is ideal for applications where 20X and lower magnification are required. The binocular feature reduces eye strain. The quality of the product exceeded my expectations.

Optically this microscope works great. The mount leave something to be desired. It tips over if you turn it to far the the side, and more joints would be nice.
