The AmScope SM-1TZ professional trinocular stereo zoom microscope has a pair of 10x super-widefield high-eyepoint eyepieces, a 0.7x-4.5x zoom objective, two Barlow lenses, and a pillar stand. The microscope has an overall magnification range of 3.5x-90x. The trinocular viewing head has an interpupillary range of 55 to 75mm, a 45-degree inclination to reduce eye and neck strain, and 360-degree rotation to enable sharing. The vertical trinocular port can be used as a C-Mount or 23mm photo port (camera sold separately). The WH10x20mm super-widefield high-eyepoint eyepieces combine with the 0.7x-4.5x zoom objective to provide zoom magnification and a longer working distance for inspecting large-scale specimens that require handling or repair. The microscope comes with 0.5x and 2.0x Barlow lenses that can be added to the objective to increase the magnification range. A Barlow lens with a magnification of less than 1.0 reduces magnification and increases the working distance, while a Barlow lens with a magnification greater than 1.0 increases the magnification and reduces the working distance. High-eyepoint eyepieces ease viewing for users who wear glasses, and dioptric adjustment accommodates individual eye-strength differences. A stereo microscope, sometimes called an inspection or dissection microscope, has low magnification and a long working distance that enables users to manipulate the object being inspected.

Ambient lighting illuminates the specimen, eliminating the need for power or batteries. The pillar-style stand secures the head for precise focusing. Bilateral coarse focus eases use for left- and right-handed users. The extra-large table stand has a reversible black and white stage plate that provides contrast with light and dark-colored specimens, and stage clips to secure the specimen in place. The stage plate has a 3-3/4" diameter (95mm). The stage is 3/4 x 10 x 12-1/2 inches/20 x 280 x 320mm (H x W x D, where H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back).

Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying magnification abilities. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also utilize LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries.

United Scope manufactures microscopy equipment and accessories under the brand name AmScope. The company, founded in 1996, is headquartered in Irvine, CA.

This microscope far exceeds my expectations!I've been using it to look at the inside of flowers. The depth of field is AMAZING! I feel like I'm being sucked into another world when I look inside the flower -- kind of an Alice in Wonderland experience. It's quite different from my compound microscope, so I've had to get used to the process of using the zoom and the focus knobs -- but it is very easy once you've worked with it a bit.Using this microscope opens up an entirely new world, and makes me appreciate things I've enjoyed (like flowers) in a whole new way. Fir instance, in my first photo, if you look closely you will see "peony eggs!) This is inside a spent peony blossom.I bought a camera separately and use it in the 3rd ocular space. The only disappointing part of using the camera is that the photo does not show the incredible depth of field you can see directly through the microcope. The camera lens "flattens" the image, so it's not nearly as amazing as what you see through the ocularsThis microscope doesn't come with a light, so we purchased one separately and it works perfectly. AmScope LED-56S-ZK 56 Microscope Ring Light LED Ring Light Illuminator with Dimmer for Stereo MicroscopeI like how I can control the brightness of the light.I found that I had a hard time seeing through the eye pieces until I removed the rubber rings provided. Not sure what they are supposed to do, but I found they got in my way. I have to hold my eyes a little way from the eye pieces to get a good view. But that's good because it is more relaxing on my eyes than having them up close.I don't have any cons to share. I LOVE this microscope and think everyone should have one so they can see just how incredible the natural world is.

Solid and adequate, with fine lenses, but bought more, such as 20X eyepieces and a 1.5X objective. Matched with a SwiftCam SC-1003-CK digital camera. Got an RU100 lens improving upon the RU50 which came with the camera. Don't know what a ring which goes on the main post is for except when the microscope is in storage under its dust cover.

No, it isn't a Nikon or a Zeiss stereoscope, but for what you pay you get a very good product. Optics are better than what I expected and overall construction, while not as elegant or good looking as the top brands, is sturdy and well finished. Mechanics are one step behind in terms of smooth movements and precision, but they work good enough for extensive industrial use.We use this stereoscope for incoming inspection of small parts and it performs as good as other brands do. We are expanding our operation and we will definitely order more 1TZ's. If you are looking for a cost effective solution for visual inspection, and you don't need the top performance of a $2k-3k stereoscope, then this is a great alternative.

I bought this primarily as an aid to identify grasses and sedges where a handheld 10x loupe sometimes just doesn't cut it. It is excellent overall for this purpose. The microscope has a mangification range of 7x to 45x and ships with a 2x barlow lens that screws on that changes the range to 14x to 90x, and a separate .5x barlow lens for more working distance that alters the range to 3.5x to 22.5x.The range of magnification afforded without the attached barlow lens is sufficient for most work. Even close examination of small seeds (e.g. rushes), hair structures, or tiny insect pests (aphids, whiteflies) rarely requires the additional lens. I find that for this work, I'd rather have the extra working distance so I use the 0.5x barlow lens attachment for most work. The optical quality is excellent. I purchased the AmScope LED-56S-ZK as a light source (no light source is included on this model), which is necessary at higher magnifications. I can't discern any optical aberrations or flaws. None of the lenses arrived oily, everything was ready to use. Assembly was straight-forward; you probably won't even need the instruction manual to figure it out.Ergonomics are good. As a glasses wearer, I'm used to many binoculars being difficult to use, but with the eyecups folded back, I have an unobstructed view and no difficulty clearly seeing what I'm working on. The reversible white/black is useful (black for looking at hairs, white for most everything else in my case).Build quality is better than expected for the price. Study enough so that there's no vibration, but while the knobs keep the microscope head in place vertically, they can still swing around somewhat easily. Not an issue in use, but I loosen them up when moving the microscope so as not to wear away at the pillar.I've used Zeiss and Olympus stereo-microscopes before and while those are undoubtedly fine pieces of equipment, the AmScope is an excellent value and definitely would meet the needs for most users outside of professional labs.

My first attempt at ordering this arrived missing one eyepiece, both eye guards, and three screws. I e-mailed warranty support and a week later, haven't heard anything.AmScope did respond to my Amazon e-mail, and suggested I return the unit and re-order it to get a good one.HA.The second unit had two eyepieces, but a SM-1BZ microscope head (no camera tube). So, two units put together *still* don't make the parts for one complete unit. This is awful quality control.(I'll update if/when I hear back.)

Open work space when using low magnification allows handling of relatively large objects. Under high magnification (using the 2x adapter) it is difficult to manipulate/position insect specimens because the lens is so close to the specimen.
