The AmScope SM-3TZ-80S professional stereo zoom microscope has a pair of 10x super-widefield high-eyepoint eyepieces, a 0.7x-4.5x zoom objective, and a single-arm boom stand. The microscope has an overall magnification range of 3.5x-90x. The trinocular viewing head has an interpupillary range of 55 to 75mm, a 45-degree inclination to reduce eye and neck strain, and 360-degree rotation to enable sharing. The vertical trinocular port can be used as a C-Mount or 23mm photo port (camera sold separately). The WH10x20mm super-widefield high-eyepoint eyepieces combine with the 0.7x-4.5x zoom objective to provide continuous zoom magnification and a longer working distance for inspecting large-scale specimens that require handling or repair. The microscope comes with 0.5x and 2.0x Barlow lenses that can be added to the objective to increase the magnification range. A Barlow lens with a magnification of less than 1.0 reduces magnification and increases the working distance, while a Barlow lens with a magnification greater than 1.0 increases the magnification and reduces the working distance. High-eyepoint eyepieces ease viewing for users who wear glasses, and dioptric adjustment accommodates individual eye-strength differences. A stereo microscope, sometimes called an inspection or dissection microscope, has low magnification and a long working distance that enables users to manipulate the object being inspected.
The removable 80-bulb LED ring light provides bright, cool light for working with temperature-sensitive or live specimens. The ring light provides shadow-free illumination, and a rheostat controls the amount of light emanating from the lamp. Power and adjustment controls are located on the light head. The light has a 100,000-hour life span and a 90V-265V variable power supply. The microscope has a 17" pillar that has an 8" vertical working distance. The 16" single-arm boom has a 24" overall length. Bilateral focus eases use for left- and right-handed users. The microscope head can be rotated on the X- and Y-axes. The solid cast-steel base is 1-3/4 x 9 x 9 inches (H x W x D, where H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back).

Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying magnification abilities. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also utilize LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries.

This is a BEAST. And I mean that in only the best way. Be prepared to assemble a VERY heavy microscope. The base alone is very heavy, which is great. You don't have to worry about your expensive microscope fitter with an even more expensive DSLR falling over on you. Wonderful optics with much better depth of field than less expensive scopes. The ring light is very nice.

I love this microscope. I study entomology and received it as a graduation gift. This scope is perfect. I can get much more detail that I could with the scopes at my school, it will come in handy for those specimens with especially minute characters I need to see. I don't have a camera yet, but I chose this so I would have the option to attach a camera in the future. I love that the scope can move laterally, I often have to examine aquatic samples in large trays and pick out very tiny insects, and it is wonderful to be able to move the scope to the sample instead of trying to fit the sample on the stand. I ended up taking off the long horizontal arm since I need a more compact set up now, but its really nice that I have the option either way

Bought this for surface-mount soldering. It's perfect for that job! As far as I can tell, it's a perfect copy of the super-expensive microscopes available 20 years ago.

I have enjoyed using these scopes at work for sometime. So it was a no brainer for me to buy one for my own when I needed one. My only disappointments were:1) Some of the parts are now make of plastic. Mostly dust cover type parts nothing that would lessen the optical stability of the unit. The ring light is also now plastic. I am a bit worried about that as it sometimes get hit when placing objects into the field of view.2) AmScope thinks that they should hide the online instruction manual (in poor English) behind a password. The password is supposed to be printed on the box. My box had all kinds of numbers and codes printed on it. Not a single one worked so I had to email them to get it. Why they figured it had to be password protected is beyond me.3) The camera port design has changed. The new one has a telescoping tube that has a sloppy fit.But besides this annoyances, the unit is solid and has great optics. It is a joy to use.
