Your not alone.
I created this design after i had enough of my clean up crew crawling into my power heads! Not only does it make an annoying sound but it also damages the impeller on the pump.
How does it help?
This design improves the factory guard in several ways:
- Protection: Additional spokes on the front of the guard prevent critters from climbing into the pump and damage the blades. Smaller openings on the suction side prevent critters from being sucked into the pump blades
- Durability: PETG plastic construction makes the guard strong, 100% reef safe, and less brittle than the factory pump.
- Function- This guard is a direct replacement for the factory Ecotech Marine power head lineup (it is NOT a cover) and they install in the same way as the stock guard. It also maintains a similar form so you don't have to worry about additional, bulky covers over your stock guard that could fall off!
But i didn't stop there...
Disappointment with the flow spread and inability to drive the pump at higher speed led me to design a unique "ENHANCED FLOW" anemone guard that disperses the flow - allowing the pump to be driven at a higher speed in the same size tank while creating a wider flow pattern across the tank!

The old nozzle/cover for my mp40 had been eroded away by my urchins, so I needed a replacement. This replaced it perfectly, and is sturdier and provides more protection than the original. A bit pricey, but I like it.

I’ve tried several guards for my vortech mp40s. They worked, but were completely oversized to slip over and or didn’t protect the impeller from fish and anemones. This one fits great and maintains the same foot print as the oem cover. Checks all the boxes….Would not go any other route

I got the standard type and it fit perfectly and worked well, especially if you prefer a more directional flow, with the added protection for your anemones. Great customer service from seller, as far as answering all my questions. Thanks!

I was very excited to get this as I hated the look of the ones the MP40 brings since all the food gets stuck to it. So I bought 4 and put them on, two days later I found the Anemone dead on it, it went right through it. Doesn’t work for the intended purpose, I should have kept the old ones as they did saved the Anemone from getting shredded a couple of times.

Great product! Replaces the entire Vortech guard, unlike other guards. Fit was great and without any effort. Looking forward to trying out the enhanced flow style for a MP40!P.S. No anemones were harmed during this review…
