Got this kit to do the wheel bearings on my FWD Ford Escape. I removed the old bearing with a slide hammer but the outer race was frozen into place within the hub. It took a little figuring and some trial and error to set up the right cups/press plates to get the race out. The amount of torque I had to apply was scary, but the race came out and no damage to the tool. I read other users' advice that said to apply grease to the acme bolt and I'm sure this helped a lot. I slathered on wheel bearing grease and ran the tool in and out a few times to "mate" the parts. Using it to install the new bearing was a snap. I froze the bearing overnight in the freezer, cleaned the hub with brake parts cleaner and a steel parts brush, applied a thin film of grease to the hub and the outside of the bearing. I then tapped the bearing with a rubber mallet to seat it enough to not fall out of the hub and pressed it in the rest of the way with the tool. It went in like a hot knife through butter!I can see why others believe the bolt is the weak link. I do believe that If this kit were to be used in a shop that the bolt would fail first. It's a good bolt but not grade 8 or 10. If I were going to use this more often, I think I'd look into getting grade 10 acme bolts from a machine shop.

Item got to my residence 2 days before expectation and box was well packaged. Tool worked beyond expectation. Manual specified specific plates for my specific vehicle but the specified size was too big and I almost striped the bolt trying to put through the plate to push out the bearing. If I had used one of these before I would have known that something was not right. changed plate to a size smaller and the bearing came out with ease. Only negative to this set is that the size of the plates are marked on the outside edge so if they are used often these markings will wear off and you will not know which ones are which. Will need to get a engraver to mark the sizes permanently inside. Great tool for the money, all the sizes you can ever need for all types of north American and European (VW/Audi) cars. Cheers

The tool is greats but it doesn't have the bits for large wheel bearing like my GL350. Halfway through the job I left with my car on jacks for 3 days. The largest ring is the exact same size as the front wheel bearing of GL350 thus I couldn't remove the bearing. I ended up renting a tool from a rental shop to finish the job. Too bad because I really liked the set.If your bearing measures over 4 inches you may not be able to use this tool.

This saves me from having to buy a 20 ton press and worrying about how to move something that big and heavy if I move out of my house. works great on a 2001 Accord V6. I used multipurpose grease because motor oil is too weak as a lubricant. you can buy extra bolts from the mcmaster carr site. the bolt is 3/4-10 which means it's 3/4" and a 10 thread, the original bolt I think is like 7.5" so definitely get at least 8.5 inches or longer because when I tried pressing the new bearing in the original bolt was too short by at least 1/2", you can also buy the coupling nut, grade 5 is ok but if you can get the grade 8 steel that's what you want. if you want to be cheap I think home depot has a bolt that would work too so check there, but it's not the best steel. they also have 10 pack washers too. I bought 8" bolts which I wish I had gotten at least 8.5" but 8 inches still worked. actually I found my receipt here's the hardware you need for extra bolts, I bought 2 kinds of bolts and couplers just to test them, the threaded rod was from advice from someone who told me about mcmaster he said to weld the rod to make my own custom length which I never did so I wasted some money:1 90983A229 High-Strength Steel Coupling Nut Grade 8, 3/4"-10 Thread Size2 92865A867 Medium-Strength Grade 5 Steel Hex Head Screw Zinc-Plated, 3/4"-10 Thread Size, 8" Long, Fully Threaded3 90322A191 Grade 8 Steel Fully Threaded Rod 3/4"-10 Thread, 8" Long (get at least 8.5" or longer4 93827A259 High-Strength Steel Hex Nut Grade 8, Zinc-Aluminum Coated, 3/4"-10 Thread Size, Packs of 105 92141A036 18-8 Stainless Steel Washer Oversized, 3/4" Screw Size, 0.812" ID, 1.875" OD, Packs of 106 90977A215 Medium-Strength Steel Coupling Nut Grade 5, 3/4"-10 Thread Size

I typically don't write reviews for products, but wanted to address a few complaints folks have had about this bearing set. I got this last night and pressed two bearings with ease. Before working with it, I did what any reasonable person would do and lubed the threads with axle grease. Then I ran the nut up and down a couple of times until everything moved smoothly. The most common complaint about this is that the threads are weak; I'm sure that the people who are complaining about weak threads aren't properly lubricating this tool prior to use. Even the super-expensive sets need lubrication. The second most common complaint is that the adapters aren't the right size or whatever. This may be a valid complaint, but it's hard for me to say because it had every size I needed for my bearing and hub.Overall, this set worked great and was everything I had expected it would be. Price is right, quality is right, just lube it prior to use.

So the time came for me to replace my front wheel bearings..!! Got the part from autozone, but they didn't have the tool to remove the bearing from the hub housing. So i asked arround how much to take them out, from 3 different shops I was quote $100.00 since they have to take them out and pressed the new ones. This price was after I told them that the hubs were already out of the vehicle. I think this was a little to high, so I decided to do my homework and do some research on good old YouTube. And after looking a few how to videos i came across this particular one we're I've seen this tool set. And ofcourse i looked for it on amazon and got it from Amazon. It works great, less than 10 min and both of my front bearings were out, and pressed the new ones in. This tool set woks great if you have an impact( I have a cordless makita also bought here on Amazon) it can be done with a ratchet also, that's how it was done on the video, but it takes time. This tool set is for removing the bearing and press the new bearing inside the hub. Just got to be careful while pressing the new ones in. Very satisfied with this tool, it comes with different sizes for different cars and light trucks. If you like to work on your own cars and not afraid to do it yourself, u can't go wrong with this tool set. Tools will pay for themselves in time. This tool set was used on a 97 vw cabrio front wheel bearings.
