Product Description

ATO
ATO M12 Through Beam Photoelectric Sensor

Multiple protection functions:

  • with reverse power protection
  • with short circuit protection
  • with current overload protection

Features:

  • Can distinguish the opaque reflective object
  • Widely applications
  • Less susceptible to interference
  • Long life and high reliability
  • Can be directly connected with PLC
  • Protection class: IP67

Widely Applications: ATO Photoelectric sensors have been used as position detection, liquid level control, product counting, width discrimination, speed detection, fixed length cutting, holes recognition, signal delay, automatic door sensing, color scale detection, punching and cutting Machine and security and many other areas. In addition, using the stealthiness of infrared, photoelectric sensors also can be used as a burglar alarm in banks, warehouses, shops, and offices.

Q: Does the photoelectric switch sensor have to be connected to a PLC to work properly?

A: Our photoelectric sensor can be connected to a relay to work, not necessarily a PLC.

Q: Does the sensor miss an object from time to time during detection?

A: Generally the photoelectric switch would not miss an object during detection, if it does, you can check to see if there are interfering beams, or objects that overlap and pass through.

Response time isn't great on these, but they do work. You need to be careful with your alignment, and make sure whatever you're putting in front of it is sufficiently opaque (I did not test to see what that level is). Otherwise, it works for general photoelectric sensing.

Overall, these sensors have some room for improvement. They have to be hooked up to a PLC in order to work properly. At times, the sensors have a tendency to not pick up an object passing through the detection beam. I would say 1 out of 10 or so did not register. All the objects were the same size, density, and color, so I am not sure why they sensors would miss an object from time to time.

If you are using this for an application that does not require a quick reaction time it works well. Personally, I don't think the 1ms advertised reaction time is even close to being accurate. I also would add that their website brags about their customer service. The first time I contacted them I never got a response and the second time their response was vague and unhelpful.

We chose this switch for a device we are developing. The switch was very easy to power up. It has a good detection range and a wide target transmitter. I'll probably purchase several hundred of these.

Wanted a switch that was normally open to turn on signal lights on a train layout. Returned for refund with no problems.
