It is light brown with ivory trim and features a design which is modelled on the original 18th century baroque instrument by Richard Haka. It consists of 3 parts which can be smoothly yet firmly fitted together to allow for consistent, accurate tuning. The wind way is curved which helps to provide a little resistance to the air when playing and hence allows for a softer, finer tone. It also makes it easier to control breath and therefore allows for more expressive playing. The 709W is supplied in a durable, faux leather bag with a cleaning rod, joint grease and an adjustable thumb rest.

I've been playing recorders for a long time & especially since 2020; I have had 3 Yamaha alto recorders, one Zen & 2 Aulos. I recommend that players only buy Yamaha because the sound much better than their competitors (no off-notes, no problems fitting pieces together, no buzzes). Fortunately I'm also a painter so I can use this piece of trash in a still life. Remember, Yamaha is the only manufacturer of low-cost musical instruments which actually play the way they should.

I loved my alto aulos haka recorder. Unfortunately I left my backpack unzipped one day and my dog got a hold of it and chewed the head joint to pieces. I will be buying another very soon.Although I did have a problem with condensation with this recorder (and every recorder I've tried so far, frankly) I love how easy it is to hit those low notes and how well the instrument sounds. While I haven't had access to a great many recorders at this point, the alto haka has been the best and my favorite.

This was everything it claimed to be. Good sound quality, easy to play, just a really nice instrument.

I was very disappointed with Amazon. a fairly expensive item ( $70.00} was literally thrown into a paper package!! Several items were missing, including cleaning brush , any kind of instruction etc. Very disappointed!!!!!

I love this recorder. It plays as well as it looks. This is the best plastic recorder you can find. Get one!

It plays like a very expensive wooden alto, albeit with the problems with condensed water in the windway typical for plastic recorders. Good for practice or as a backup in a performance.
