Top Up of R134a Refrigerant

1. You need some tools, like digital manifold gauge set, can of r134a, can tap, digital thermometer, r134a adapter.

2.Using a thick solution of dish washing liquid and water to figure out whether leak free.

3.With the can tap connected to the can of r134a hose, turn on the can tap valve a little to get the air purged out, and then turn off the blue valve on the mainfold.

4.With the car started and AC compressor on, recirculation mode, blower fan on max, slowly opened the blue valve to allow r134a into the system. Keeping an eye on the low pressure gauge. Patience is needed here to add r134a and let the system equalize then add some more.

5.I hope this instructable has been helpful to you.

I ordered this primarily for the adapter, the tap I had previously bought at autozone and it failed so this one solved both issues; to my surprise the adapter was missing. Four stars for the fast action sending me the replacement, ding you one star cause A it shouldn't have been missing in the first place AND B regardless of how fast it was corrected I needed then when I was actually working on the car....

This fits and is designed for the new r134a cans with the Schrader valve that reseals. This is not for the old style that pierced the can, and then you back it out to release the refrigerant into your supply hose. This one depresses the Schrader valve and by so doing releasing refrigerant into the hose. To close the flow, you back the “plunger”back up and the Schrader closes sealing the can end then you can remove the adapter. This worked great for me after repairing a leak in my a/c system and doing a vacuum and refill. Awesome. They do sell an adapter for the old style sharp plunger style for the old can if you have one of those. I had misplaced mine.Nice that they redesigned the cans and I will not waste the refrigerant as the old ones always leaked and when you needed to top off a system a couple of years later ... you had to buy a new can ... and only use a bit and then it would leak again.
