I purchased the green 4wt rod.The bad:1. single foot guides. There may be some advantage to single foot guides, but I prefer snake guides. Bad eyes plus low light plus single foot guides makes things measurably more difficult for me to get set up in the morning than traditional snake guides.2. Look at the attached photo. That flared ledge near the end of the cork says, "We turned the grip down too far and then realized we still needed enough material to cover the upper half of the reel seat." I actually returned the first rod I purchased. I thought it might have been a one-off mistake. It certainly doesn't look like that in the images Aventik provides. Nope the second rod showed up the same way.The good:1. The semi-transparent green blank is very pretty in the sunlight. If you ignore the rod grip, fit and fishing in general are beyond what I'd expect for a sub $100 rod.2. It's true to weight. It casts a 4wt line very well at any distances I would expect to be able to cast a 7 foot rod.3., Perhaps it just matches my casting rhythm, but for me it casts very accurately easily out to 30-40 feet. It will go further, but again this a 7'7" 4wt. I have several modern cannons in other weights and materials if I want to go farther. It really casts well for me (which is the most important quality IMO) and given I paid for it, I'll keep it in spite of it's imperfections.

Glass rods are back, and sometimes even at prices higher than carbon rods. They are easy to cast, even for distance. But they can be tiring. This one is small enough it should never tire one; it cast a 3 wt rod very well, and is good for close in work in small streams, or just for the challenge of a small rod. There are a whole universe of new techniques that short rod don't figure in, but for classic dry fly fishing it is still a lot of fun to use a short rod, and they are easier to maneuver in some conditions.

This thing is a blast. I like exploring from confluences to headwaters of rivers here in Washington, and it gets thin and brushy up there. This 7'7" fiberglass 4 weight is perfect. Laser accurate casts to pools containing 6-12 inch trout, and with enough backbone to handle 22 inch Cutthroat in lakes (Never caught anything larger than that with this rod, but I have no doubt you could land a 26 incher if you could let it run). The "brown" is definitely more of a rust color, but it is still beautiful.I have a Scientific Anger Infinity 4wt line on this, with the MaxCatch Avid reel, and casting is smoother than butter in August. This is my only fiberglass rod, and the action is wayyyy slower than any modern graphite rod. Which is very fun.I have only logged around 200 days of all-day fly fishing, and I am not any great caster, though I do practice. I can still get this thing out 40ft without wind with no issue. There is never, ever any time when I am on a river or stream that i need to get this much line out though.Don't overthink it. If you want an accurate, fun, slower action, well-functioning fly rod for an absolute bargain, and you are willing to deal with a cheap, thin reel seat (not a good addition, Aventik. But no issues with it yet), then just buy this.Aventik: give us a better real seat for an extra $10. We will pay it.

If you didn't know you'd think this was a much more expensive rod then it is. Can't really find anything I don't like about this rod. Thinking about getting an 8wt next

What I like about this rod vs a lot of vintage rods is that it is 4pcs and comes with a nice case. I am able to accurately cast traditionally or roll cast and have used it a few times already on some local trout rivers. I have used it with both 5DT and 5WF lines and each performs well. The rod is finished well and the cork is more than adequate. The guides are single foot guides, so some people are turned off by that, but I have built rods with them before and I like them. The epoxy used on the guides is well done and not sloppy. The sections stay together and have not loosened during use. The reel seat is inexpensive, but it does the job and does not loosen and holds newer and vintage reels without a problem.I think the action is similar to some later Fenwick fiberglass rods and you can fish at all reasonable fishing distances easily. I liked the 5wt so much I purchased the 4wt and also picked up a 1/2wt model too. The 1/2wt has a clunky reel seat that is a real miss on such a small rod.I think these are a great rod to get into trying fiberglass rods and certainly better than the Eagle Claw Featherlight rods - although their 6'6" rod is a lot of fun. Better than the Cabela's CGR line as well IMO. Also a good rod if outfitting a kid or friend interested in fishing, or to have as a backup or rod stashed in the car/truck.

This purchase deviated from my norm in that I usually purchase high quality fishing gear, but this is a great rod for the money. I fell in love with glass rods a couple of years ago and wanted a shorter rod for catching brookies on small streams. I live in Florida so the opportunities are limited and I didn’t want to spend a ton of money. Came across this 7’7” 4wt and between Amazon’s return policy and the price I figured I couldn’t go wrong. I didn’t. The quality of this rod is impressive. Beautiful green blank, excellent fit and finish and the guides were nicely wrapped. Great cork for a rod in this price range. The rod also has alignment dots, which for some reason are often absent in inexpensive rods. Most impressive was the casting. Beautiful rolls with slower, effortless casting. This rod would fall into the “fast glass” category of action, but definitely the slower action of glass. The only drawback is the reel seat is pretty cheap. I don’t see how you can go wrong with the purchase, however.
