Easy to install but, becomes expensive when you factor calibers, rotors, brake levers, mounting brackets and cabling. There are low to medium grade offerings from both Shimano & SRAM that are as good or better w/technology changes that cost half the price.

I've been running avid BB7 brakes since 2003, and they are my preferred set up for everything from cross-country to dirt jump to downhill. Incredibly reliable. Never any question if they will work when I need them to. Easy to install and adjust, and no worry about fluids or bleeding them. Very powerful braking never leaves you wanting more.

This Avid disk brake is my rear brake on my mountain bike. It has more stopping power, is easier to modulate the braking power, and adjust, than my rim brake. Adjusting the toe-in of my rim brake so it wouldn't squeak took time. Disk brakes also don't wear out the side of the rim.
