I was able to pack 10 days worth of clothing into the carry on Away bag. The suitcase rolls very smoothly. The zipper quality is great and the lock easy to use. Just bring some Downy Wrinkle Release to smooth out your clothing!

I love this suitcase. We travel abroad a lot and are carry on only travelers. This bag has been perfect. The quality is great. Zipper works well. They roll great.Only con I’ve found is that the fold over mesh that’s supposed to strap your clothes down broke. They done sell replacements for this and when I reached out to away they keep asking me for my receipt but I can’t find it anywhere in my email and I ordered it online through their website. So I can’t seem to get that fixed. 😔

The Away brand of luggage seems to be the defacto standard for travelers and I can see why. This carry-on suitcase is well made. The zippers work well, the handle does what you need it to do, and the inside is thoughtfully designed. Several design features make this product a standout when compared to others. First, notice the wheels…there are 2 wheels on each hub, instead of the usual 1 wheel. This actually matters when using the case as a spinner instead of just dragging it along. I tested this on a smooth surface, 12” tile, carpet and wood decking, and it rolled and spun with no issues whatsoever. Next, Away incorporated a built-in grab section on the bottom, giving you an extra place to grip when yanking it off of the bed or luggage carousel. Away avoided just tacking on another strap, thereby preserving clearance when rolling. Next, the inside divider is a fully spaced divider instead of just 2 straps, enabling smaller clothing items to be secured whichever way you choose to close up the suitcase.I compared this suitcase to one that I already own, and in addition to the features above, I think the polycarbonate may be a little more substantial. The comparison product cost less than $30 (when purchased as a set of 3), so it’s not exactly an apples to apples comparison. That being said, it’s tough to justify paying $275 for the Away product when something substantially identical is one-tenth of the cost.My first use was an overnight trip that involved driving rather than flying, so I didn’t subject this case to the tender mercies of the airlines yet, but it was really easy to handle and manipulate, even going up and down several flights of stairs.

There are several improvements on this carry on that previous models did not have. The telescope handle extends to and stops at several different lengths, so you can adjust it for your height and for whether you are walking with the suitcase upright or at an angle. The compression straps are removable from the luggage if you don’t want them for a given trip. They are attached to the body of the suitcase with metal pieces kept in place with what look to be Phillips screws, so you can loosen those, remove the straps, and tighten the screws back into place.Because the mesh compression panel and straps can also be separated from each other, you can opt to keep the panel even if you remove the straps, and vice versa. The compression panel has two zipper compartments, and you could slip some items in the reverse side of you really wanted to, though that seems to be meant for opening the cover up to take it off of the flexible frame of the panel. On the outside, there is definitely Away branding visible (there is a label on the shell, on the zippers, et cetera), but it’s on the inside liner material and several internal tags where you see the logo repeated. It clashes a bit with the minimalist aesthetic, but on the Jet Black version, it doesn’t pop out too too much. The zipper itself is sunken below the level of the shell. It’s kind of odd looking, but it’s a sturdy zipper so the functionality is there. The weight at just over 7 lbs is not excessive but it’s not ultra lightweight (but also is not branded that way). I opted to get the Jet Black color so that the seams on the zipper would match the case. I thought the stitching would look horrendous based on the photos, but in person they look very even and don’t stand out as much.A minor detail that is surprising for a luxury brand: there is an obvious typo on the packaging of the small magic eraser that you get, which tells you to use it on scuff marks and dirty “sports”. Strange that no one at Away has caught this yet.The hard case material looks very nice but shows oil from skin immediately if you look closely. I’ve never owned a piece of luggage that does this, but it has zero effect on the function of the suitcase. The wheels roll smoothly, the compression system keeps you organized, the look is sleek - minus the excessive branding on the inside - and with the adjustable-length telescope handle, it is easy to move around quickly and comfortably.
