I first thought this didn't work.Then I figured out how this would work.First connect the cable to the target appliance, then connect USB A port to the power source.Viola.Note that the power source has to be passive, not some old power banks.I tried several power banks I have at home and not all worked, but some.

This cable works, but realize that the output current is going to be on the lower side as compared to the input. So if you have more than 1.5 amps required on the 12 volt output, this is not going to work for you.
