What is wool fleece?
After knitting, the fabric is cleaned, and then the fabric surface is textured on both sides to get the traditional, amazing fluffy effect of our wool fleece quality. The material is then "shaved" to a consistent fibrous web height while simultaneously aspirating the exposed fibers. Nevertheless, occasionally a tiny portion of these exposed fibers stays on the textile, which might initially result in pilling on the final product.
Advantages of wool fleece
Wool fleece is very soft, fluffy, and cuddly. Wool fleece has a great degree of elasticity, making it incredibly cozy without being overly constrictive. Numerous tiny air pockets can be found in the roughened structure, which on the one hand can help to retain warmth and, on the other hand, allows for the interchange of air and heat. As a result, wool fleece provides an excellent temperature-regulating microclimate. Wool is inherently dirt and water-repellent.
What's pilling and how to prevent it?
Tiny beads develop on the surface of woolen items, this is called pilling. Natural wool products often have pilling, sometimes more noticeable than others. Pilling is quite normal and can be used as "evidence" that an item is truly made of natural wool.
Piling is the result of friction, either on the woolen item itself or on other items of clothing. It will act like sandpaper and cause pilling if the other object has a structured surface.
There is no way to avoid pilling. However, there is a technique to reduce it:
A woolen item that is too dry is more prone to pilling than one that is adequately damp. Wool dries out rapidly. As a result, we advise giving your wool items a moisturizing "shower". For instance, on a foggy day, hang the garment outside. Or hang it in the bathroom when the room is still quite steamy from a hot shower. It should just take a few hours.
Can I remove the pills?
Yes, with a little practice, it is possible to remove pills effectively using just a shaving razor.
Place the affected item on the table in front of you. Try stretching the garment a little to make the work area as flat as possible. Simply scrape the surface with a shaving blade while being cautious. Please take care of the seams to prevent damage to the product. Work the surface gradually.
This process also has an additional benefit. Given that you used a razor to trim excess wool hair, pilling won't begin to appear for some time.
Please refrain from using a "sweater stone" or pulling pills by hand. You'll also pull the fiber ends out of the knit fabric as you remove the visible pilling beads. If not correctly handled as stated above, the pilling will reoccur after a short while.

We go for a walk every morning and at night and my daughter's hands must stay warm. These work well and she isn't able to rip them off. The mittens are attached by a string which you can feed through the baby's sleeve so if they are able to get them off you won't lose them.

Soft and warm merino wool baby mittens. The cuff is nice and stretchy to easily get onto baby’s little hands. String connecting the mittens makes it easy to keep track of them. Seem like they’ll be super warm.

There are super soft and plenty warm for a Tennessee winter. I needed something to keep my daughter’s hands warm and these were perfect. Easy on and off for mama and daddy. We used them for age 3-5 months and will likely be able to use again next winter for the coldest days.
