I was able to easily and quickly, dig a hole with this thing. Its pretty sturdy and the ground were i live is hard and rocky. Its sharp and the handle is hollow, so you could add a longer handle to it. The sheath it comes with is kinda cheesy, but its enough to hold the shovel.

This is not very lightweight and the canvas case is cheaply made. But this trowel seems sturdy and durable.

Great multi-tool for the garden! Nice grip. Great all around. Very pleased. Solid construction. Love the case - I can wear it on my belt! Good for gardening, backpacking, or SHTF scenarios.

The shovel is not what I would call "ultralight" and I will not take it backpacking, there are better (and more expensive) tools to save weight in the pack. I will keep it in my car camping kit though as a good shovel for the necessary cat holes. It is strong and I put some decent leverage on it without it bending, I didn't try to bend it but it seems to hold up good to normal digging. The handle is comfortable to hold for the 30 seconds or so that you will use it at a time. The case is just okay, it is a loose fitting cheap canvas case that is good enough to protect other gear from getting cut by the semi sharp edges. The cutting edges are pretty junk. The knife edge was not sharp, it looks like it was made by a press in the factory and the edge is actually bent over the bottom of the spade causing a weird ridge underneath. I just ran a file on it to take it off, it is pointless anyway, you are never going to use this as a knife or saw anyway, it is just for looks.

If you're looking for a spade that weighs half a pound and had edges sharp as knives, this is the one for you. If you want an ultralight backpacking spade, go buy a plastic one that weighs 2 oz. and won't slice open your backpack.
