Amazing HT kit for the price! Works well in VHF, decent at UHF and sounds amazing. I recommend getting some SignalStuff BNC adapters and a SignalStick for better reception and transmission, though the kit works amazing. Comes with charging cradle and Type C cord, and features a good radio menu, though I would still program with CHiRP.

Wow this radio is simply amazing for the money that you spend on this and the quality of the radio, this is a no brainer!I like these radios so much that I've got 3 of them now. I have a 5 watt one, an 8 watt one, and now this 10 watt one!The material that the radio was made from feels like quality material. The base station that it sets into for recharging fits snugly not loose at all.It is programmable from the radio, so you don't have to use the chirp software but you can use it if you so choose.I tested this radio with a friend of mine that lives six miles away frim me in northern illinois, with buildings, trees and hills between us, and this radio was blowing his doors off without hitting a repeater!I am extremely happy with this purchase!The stock antana, words perfectly.I would not replace it unless you're going with an outdoor antenna.Baofeng really knocked it out of the park with these radios and at this price, it's a win win.If you're on the fence about buying one of these, just spend the money and look at it for yourself!You will be happy that you did!(I am in no way affiliated with baofeng nor am I compensated from them in any way shape or form.I purchased this radio with my own money.I am not affiliated with amazon in any way shape or form and I do not receive compensation for any of my reviews from anyone.)I hope this helps.

This GMRS radio works nice on all bands such as FRS, MURS, Marine, GMRS, 2m, 1.25m, 70cm. Listens on NOAA, Aviation, and Commercial FM. Plus, you can listen on a couple of other bands in 300 and 500 range. Kit's Diamond RH-771 appears to support all of this at acceptable levels. Plus, it works well with the Bingfu magnetic base antenna all TX bands under SWR 1.5 except GMRS repeater TX 2.17, but not good for 1.25m SWR 5.8. Appears Functional with RH-771. Hooked up to a Comet Discone base station antenna, the worst SWR was GMRS simplex at 1.44, Duplex 1.27, all the others were 1.0 including 1.25m band. 2m ERP 11.44 watts, UHF and GMRS 8.3-8.5 watts. Good Value, if kits equal, prices better for pair.

I've discovered that I am able to communicate across greater distances than I was able to with my prior handheld radios since they have a capacity of 10 W GMRS. During a recent camping trip that took place in a mountainous region, I was able to keep in close touch with my hiking companion, who was located over two miles away. My expectations were considerably surpassed by the range, particularly when taking into consideration the terrain. Solidity may be felt in the construction. The fact that it has a rubberized cover gives me confidence that it can endure a few bumps and drops, and it has a decent heaviness to it without being too hefty. The fact that it did not even scratch when I unintentionally pushed it off a picnic table and into some pebbles is a feature that I consider to be a significant advantage. The 2500 mAh battery is something that I truly love. For lengthy periods of time, I have been able to listen to the radio without having to worry about the battery running out of charge. The Type-C charging is another feature that is very much appreciated since it is much more convenient than the proprietary chargers.

I'm honestly not sure how to review this. The problem is that this is advertised as a GMRS radio, but it isn't. It's a ham radio. It can certainly receive GMRS signals, and it can *technically* transmit on GMRS frequencies, but it can't do so legally. GMRS radios need to be certified by the FCC for use on GMRS channels, and ham radios are specifically ineligible.Now, as a ham radio, it may not be bad. It's functionally similar to a bulkier version of the Wouxun KG-UV9D Mate, at a fraction of the price. But since I'm not actually in the market for another low end ham HT at the moment, it's getting returned, so I won't have the opportunity to really test it.

For starters it’s not a gmrs radio it’s a ham radio and it didn’t come with the programming cable and it only come with part of the items but for a ham it’s worth the money

Great little radio with a lot of potential upgrades. This receives weather radio and some municipal dispatches. Cal listen on all the civilian channels in an emergency. Great if the cell network fails.

I already have a few Baofeng radios but purchased this one because it is 10 watts. That usually means less power, like 7 or 8 watts. Still, I can easily reach one repeater that is 15.5 miles away, and another that is 22.5 miles away. However, I should mention that my transmittting location is elevated above most everything else around me, so there is minimal interference. Another review-contributor mentioned that this is a HAM radio, not a GMRS. His unit must be different from mine because there are no Ham band frequencies on this UV-5RM. However, he is correct about this not being an FCC certified GMRS radio. Therefore FCC regulations state it cannot be used to transmit on GMRS frequencies, either with or without a GMRS license. I basically purchased this to reach help during emergencies while traveling, camping, or hiking and when no other means of communications is available. That is allowed, but the FCC has very specific definitions of what an emergency is and the circumstance involved. For the purpose of this review, I am amazed at the features and function of this radio. It performs very well.
