These are great forestry saws. I ride off-road motorcycles and often carry this saw on the back of my chest protector just in case in need to clear a wind fallen smaller tree. The saw blades are amazingly sharp and keep that sharpness for a long time. The fold up design is great for storage and transport and the motion of cutting is very good. I use them to cut smaller windfalls in the woods and around the home for yard pruning. I have purchased two of these 10 years apart and have been happy with both.

After studying various folding saws I decided on this Barnel model, largely on the basis of good reviews and comparing it to the many other brands and types available. On only its second use in my yard, to saw up some kindling wood and trim branches, the blade detached from the handle. I immediately could see that this was due to the loosening of the nut on the attachment bolt. This is a problem noted in several brands, and I was disappointed to experience that with this saw. I lost the nut in the duff and it was hopeless to find it, though I gamely tried to locate it. I will now need to find a part, and will try to fit in a lock washer. Disappointed! I will use this saw but keep a close eye on the nut loosening. This is a good saw with an Achilles heel. I suggest that others consider a Silky saw, they may be better designed!

I bought the Z270 saw for trimming small tree limbs. It works great for limbs up to about 3" diameter. Very sharp and cuts smoothly. Grip is very comfortable and easy to hold firmly.Update 05/2017: The bolt that attaches the blade to the handle came loose and fell out. I'm surprised they do not use a lock nut. However, they do sell a replacement bolt & nut on their website.Update 04/2018: The spring latch that holds the blade in the open or closed position fell out, and Barnel does not offer that as a spare part. So I have reduced my rating from 5 stars to 2 stars.

We've used this saw for a couple of months, and have cut a variety of limbs around our property with it. It's fabulous. It folds and unfolds easily. It's very sharp. The curve of the blade is perfect for what we use it for. The handle is comfortable. Folded, it fits nicely in our tool holder (a recycled 1 G plastic pot). It looks like it's going to last a long time.Every time I use it I smile. We've been through a couple of other small saws, this one is by far the best. I used last weekend to cut out a 5" thick section of root from a tree we had to cut down due to storm damage. We were digging a hole for a new shrub and ran into the root. The Barnel whipped through the root very quickly, even in the confines of the hole. No way I could have gotten our bow saw in there. Clearly a 5 star product.

Very happy with my new saw, which replaces a Barnel saw that I've used for 16 years. Old one was still good but got accidentally broken by a "helper".New one is perfect for my backyard gardening, cuts like a dream. Love the tiger tooth...it works for me---and I'm 71 years old! Coconut fronds cut like butter---welllll, almost!

The long blade makes cutting larger wood easier, but the blade is a bit loose in the handle, making it hard to close one-handed. The grippy rubber handle with big hook on the end is helpful when wearing heavy gloves. Blade lock is solid and easy to use. I prefer an eight inch blade for everyday use on the trail because it's easy to carry in an outside pocket of my pack. I save the big blade for big jobs. It's a great alternative saw.
