Good looking boot that was true to size and fit well. Side zipper makes it a lot easier to slip on and off. Can't say how long they will last but felt comfortable and pleased so far.

Made from sections that seem to be from different sized pairs... tongue to thick and difficult to clamp down using the laces, either if done w or without zipping. Pressure pounts difficult to relieve leaving you with pain and numness on the top of the foot, or too loose and floppy. Insole arch "support" is very tall and in the wrong place for a generic fit, feels like you are wearing someone elses orthodic. Sole is very thick, stiff and clunky, especially the heel which comes back far beyond were it should... cought a few times going down stairs especially. Doesnt seem to be "breaking in" either, even though I havent owned a pair of boots that needed to be "broken in" since the 80s! Zipper seems fragile and snags, doubt if it sill last long, especially with the difficulty getting the lace tention with the tongue design. Zipper pull tab also too small for comfort and will probably snap off in due time. Cheap here means cheap, will be returning to 5.11 as soon as these undoubtedly ruin my feet or send me tumbling down the stairs on a call. First responders definitely look elsewhere... these are cheap fashion boots, not for utlity or professional use.

These are the UGLIEST Bates boots I've ever owned!! Nothing "cute" about them. However they are plenty wide enough and the insole that they come with feels good, with the arch at the right spot. I wear 10womens and the 8W men's are the right size for me. They are easy on/off as well. They are a bit clunky - not light weight like my Bates Tactical waterproof ones - but these ones fit me much better and I don't need that tall of a boot anymore. They'll be great for riding. If I break down, I'm not sure how they'll be for walking. At least the don't rub anywhere, but admittedly I just took them out of the box! I'll update this if needed.

I have quite a few pairs of Bates boots. I always liked their product and their prices are very good. These boots are no different. Solid well made boot. I bit on the heavy side but you don't feel the weight when own your feet.Their iCS comfort technology is awesome. You can dial it in according to your gate. My feet tend to tilt a little outward so I adjusted the dial accordingly. The first 15 minutes or so it was a little uncomfortable because my feet were adjusting to the different position but once they did these boots are extremely comfortable. Why don't all shoes have this! I'm wondering if I could use the iCS insole on other shoes. I think I can and will try that out.The leather is thick but not uncomfortable. Good protection and should wear nicely and last a ling time. I've been wearing these boots almost every day and I also think theywill be great for when I ride my motorcycles.This is a great buy and for a great price. Highly recommend these boots.EDIT: Just to address some peoples issue with sticky zippers. Just rub a little lubricant on them. I used mink oil but there are several other household items you can use....bees wax, petroleum jelly, any silicone based lube. You don't need much.

Second pair that I've owned. Very comfortable and durable. Easy to remove with side zipper. Wear these boots 10 or more hours a day with my orthotics and I actually like them better than my regular shoes.

these boots required no breaking in at all!!!!! i wore them on a Monday night (which is my Friday) thinking my feet would hurt after a while!!! however, after wearing them the entire shift i had less pain in my feet than with my other shoes!!! i would highly recommend these to anyone and i already have06July2015 updateI have been wearing these boots for about 6 months now and i have to say that i will never wear anything else while at work! I am on my feet for up to 10 hours a night and walk probably about 9-12 miles a night during my shift... i have to run down drunk people, respond to medical calls, and stand for hours at a time also... these boots have never failed me yet! sure, at the end of my work week my feet start hurting but who has feet that don't at the end of their week? all i can say is that if you need a good solid durable pair of boots these are definitely the boots to get!!!!!!!!UPDATE - - - - 11Oct2015So after having these for about six months the soles started to fall off the boot. granted i wear them about 10hrs a day 4 days a week but i would have thought that being bates they would have lasted longer than that. i contacted bates when it happened and they said nothing is wrong i must have damaged them some other way other than just wearing them... which is not the case.... so if you want to fork out the money every six months then go ahead... i did purchase another pair and when i got them there was only 1 boot! yes you read that correctly ONE BOOT lol but other than that they are still by far the most comfortable boot i have ever worn.

I'd heard good things about Bates, so I tried on a pair at a local store before ordering them for a better price here on Amazon. I'm a teacher and am on my feet all day, plus I ride a motorcycle to school and wanted one pair of boots I could wear all day and feel safe wearing on my bike. I've had these boots for a few weeks now and my impression is a good one. I like the interior disc that allows me to choose what comfort level I want. The quality seems good, and they don't feel hot on my feet even in the Texas heat. I was happy to find that the top of the toes doesn't collapse or dent under the pressure of my shifter, as has been the case with every boot except my Harley boots (which are way too heavy to spend all day in).My only complaint thus far and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the side zipper is pretty useless. It's great for taking the boots off quickly, but trying to put them on without unlacing them is a joke. I actually got a foot cramp trying to get these on without unlacing, thinking that maybe I just needed to break them in. No such luck. I don't know if the 6" height of the boot prohibits a long enough zipper to be incorporated, but regardless it was a bit of a disappointment.Still, overall I feel these are really good boots and I'm glad I was able to find them for such a good price here. They do seem to run a bit large, though. I am a female and normally wear an 8 or 8.5 in men's shoes, but I'm wearing a 7.5 (and could probably even go to a 7 comfortably) in these boots. Hopefully they'll last a good long while without having to be replaced.
