I had recently purchased a Nikon D810 and wanted a battery grip to add to the camera. My first purchase did not work at all even though its description stated that it was compatible. After sending back the grip that kept malfunctioning, I purchased the Vivitar VIVPGD810 battery grip. This grip looks great on the camera and functions as it is supposed to work.

I bought the legit Nikon grip for my D7100 and it was a couple hundred dollars. After getting my D810 I wanted to explore more options. The camera was expensive enough and I didnt really want to spend hundreds more on the grip.As far as quality, the grip is top notch. It may not fit the camera exactly like the Nikon brand, bit it isn't noticeable in any way. The grip material feels really good and does its job. Unless you examine up close you can't tell it is an aftermarket item. The only fault are the buttons and dials, however it is not their function, but feel I am speaking of. The buttons and dials work very well, however they do not have that smooth feel like the Nikon brand does. Despite this minor flaw, I have not missed any of my shots due to poor craftsmanship on this grip. I highly recommend it. If you like Subaru's follow me on IG blue.icee.brz

I was happy the item arrived a day early. It was shipped with some other items I had ordered. I installed the grip without any problems and the grip was a good fit. The quality was great for the price and the batteries alone made the purchase worthwhile. I have the D800E and the camera functions with the grip as expected and the batteries show up on the "info" display. All of the buttons, joystick and control lock work as expected. The joystick takes a little getting use to since it is a little sensitive.Only time will tell if the grip is reliable and the quality is good. I also am concerned with the quality of the batteries and hope that they hold their charge over the long haul. (The batteries are not OEM). I've had good luck with Vivatar products in the past. I have a 2x converter and it is built well. One drawback is that when mounted on the tripod the camera is not rock solid. I haven't tried using the tripod with the grip on a windy day. You might need to use a remote release with mirror lockup enabled to ensure tack sharp shots. I consider this to be a minor issue. The grip installs and uninstalls easily so you could take a critical shot without the grip and then reinstall it.The D800E is a heavy camera without the grip... it definitely is heavy with the grip. The arrangement of the controls takes some getting use to when shooting in portrait orientation.Overall the grip is a great product and definitely worth the price.

While I gave this a 5 star rating back when I got it (and, it still stands), I just recently went from the d800e to the d810, and it came with a *free* MD-12. So, now I have had a chance to actually compare them. This grip has worked great for me since I got it. It feels pretty good. The battery has never been "lost" by the camera. It does seem to do the job. Build quality is pretty good, and almost (at least from an external aesthetics and "feel" standpoint) as good as the Nikon. The functionality of the MD-12 is a bit more robust. The primary wheel on the grip isn't as responsive as the MD-12. It will spin, but not register on the camera at times. The directional pad on it is good, and I've never had issue with it, but I also never really use it. One thing concerning the build in terms of difference is the little tab that you pull out, spin and remove the battery compartment with. That one seems much sturdier on the MD-12 (though, "sturdy" is a relative thing here... While better, the MD-12 also feels a bit on the 'this might break one day' side)... This doesn't mean that it just breaks... Mine hasn't had an issue yet, after quite a few uses...Overall, I'd say that, for the money this is a VERY good choice. If you can live with the shoddy wheel, and if you aren't rough with it (and, if you don't wind up having to cut the thing off with a hacksaw, as mentioned by another reviewer... My thought, after owning it for a while is: don't tighten it down as hard as you can... You'll probably be fine).

The official Nikon version of this is three hundred bucks! Wow!!! This is under $100 and comes with two batteries. It's made by Vivitar - a brand with which I have 40 years of positive experience. It connects to my camera simply. The second battery is recognized by the battery meter, It adds the right amount of grip for my meaty hands but adds very little extra weight.Need a second battery to ensure you can finish an assignment without draining you power? Want a better grip on a heavy camera with a heavy lens? Want to save $200 and still have a quality product - look no further.I love it!

Great product for the price. The Nikon grip is around $500 I think. Ridiculous in my opinion. This product mounted perfectly and came with two batteries. The batteries seem to work and hold a charge just fine. Whether they continue to work great over the life of the camera is yet to be seen. Who cares. They were cheap. My only minor complaint is the thumb wheels feel a bit cheap when rotating and the multi-selector for thumb focus, etc. is not well positioned compared to the standard controls on camera. It could be that the Nikon grip is not placed identically either. I wouldn't consider a 4 star rating bad. Just a few minor things really to keep it from 5 stars, which would indicate perfection. Totally worth the $70!!!

Poor fit, vertical release button fired randomly causing missed shots, did not line up well with the D810 was worried I damaged the coupler on my Nikon with this piece of junk there are plenty of better aftermarket options out there for not that much more money. I went with the Vello bg-n7 and it fit like a glove and operates beautifully
