This is a very clever design. It does a good job of solving a fairly infrequent problem. That of lifting off a hot grill grate. I try to anticipate grate positions before starting a burn, however it has not always worked that way. This lifter does a much more stable job than the ones that resemble some kind pry bar you hook under the grill and balance the grate while moving it. It works well with gratings that have a removable center circle. It works well to lift a grating to add another wood chunk on burning coals. It also works well with add-on systems of indirect cooking using multiple grill level arrangements. It may not be something you use regularly, but when you find the need to move a hot grating after starting this just might be the best solution around. A useful item.
