We added fork and shock springs to my buddies CRF 230 Honda (Enduro model not Street). Weighing in at about 170 with gear he was way too heavy for the stock suspension. After two years of trying to educate him on how adversely his handling was effected by the far too soft springs he popped for front fork springs. What was I thinking? Of course I had to install them. His downhills became much easier as the forks weren't almost totally compressed as he descended hills. It also decreased the rake which made the bike less twitchy on downhills. Getting him to buy the BBR spring was a lot easier once he realized the improvement in the front. Without an equal increase of spring rate in the rear the bike would have been sort of chopper like. This would cause it to go wide in turns or override berms. Adding the BBR springs leveled the bike and gave him excellent turn in. It also increased the ground clearance and he found that his bike was not bottoming and his feet were hitting a lot less of ruts and trail debris. BBR is the only company I know of that is making a rear spring for the 230. This guy is 63 and has a lot of trophies but the addition of the correct spring rates made him a lot faster through the woods and especially on downhills.

The spring really helps to keep my crf230 from bottoming out on small jumps. If you weigh over 200 this spring is the best way to help with bottoming and obtaining proper race sag on your bike without replacing the entire shock or getting a revalve. I have found despite other reviews that I DO have enough rebound damping and it does not try to buck me off. This setup worked for me without a new 600 dollar rear shock. Its still no motocross bike but it can soak up hits on the trail much better than before. I have used BBR to replace the front springs as well and to me the bike rides much better. Even my 150lb girlfriend noticed the difference and loves riding with this spring, point being it does not seem to be "over sprung"
