The latch works great. The javelinas used to knock over the trash can to get inside, but now they don't even bother. They know it's futile.Sadly, I believe the top hook caught something inside the trash truck while it was being dumped. When the truck pulled it out to set it down, it took the lid right off. The strap stayed on the lid so 5 stars for durability. In the future, I'll install the strap upside down or make it shorter so there's less to catch.

It’s a fine product but the holes didn’t line up and I had to have different holes drilled in the plate

Bolts supplied are not long enough to reach through hardware and wall of trash can to secure properly. This apparently is made for a cheap thin walled can. Probably will not work in US unless you own your can and it is cheap.

This arrives as a lot of parts in a small plastic bag. Everything that was suppose to be in there was.It is all steel construction except for the strap, which feels fairly strong and has some stretch to it. My favorite thing about this kit is that they included steel back plates for the mounting hardware. While not very thick, they are thick enough to provide much more strength than just putting bolts and washers through your plastic. This is important, not only for the animals, but for the trash collectors. The trash collectors seem to find ways to break lesser made locks. I am hoping this one will hold up to them, and I am also hoping the raccoons do not learn how to flip up the latch, as I must put it out without it being completely locked (due to the fact I am sure the trash collectors would take or loose the clip that locks it).I like it, and if it can stand up to the trash collectors and raccoons I will like it even more!

These locks work as intended. Reasonable price, easy install and best of all, no more picking up garbage the bears have decided to go through. Haven't had one issue since the locks were installed. Definitely recommend purchasing them if you have issues with unwanted visitors rummaging through your garbage.

We're not typically ones to leave our trash cans out for long periods, but on the nights before trash days, our cans can become targets for any number of furry pests. These are great because they're super easy to install and they lock down very securely. They're easy enough to unlatch to not incovenience the sanitation workers (though I always unlock them before they're picked up). It's also a much more clean look than using bungee straps or chains. This looks more intentional and, when installed properly, even looks like it was meant to be there all along. If you've got trouble with little furry critters going through your trash cans at night, this is a super easy, super effective solution.
