This is the second video I have purchased. I bought this video for a friend. I bought the first video for myself about a year ago and I gave it a glowing review then. I don't see that review here but I said I would give it 10 stars if I could! I tried to learn by watching YouTube videos at first...not a good idea. This video is very well organized, the instructor is interesting, has a great dry sense of humor and clearly knows what he is doing. I was able to quickly learn to play well enough to make people think I know what I'm doing. ; > ) It is a lot of fun and also a great stress reliever to properly beat the tar out of a bodhran. (You will learn the correct pronunciation of "Bodhran".) I very highly recommend this video! The instructor is an EXCELLENT TEACHER!

My two star rating is based on the following; the description says that this DVD is "very comprehensive." Actually, you can watch it all in around half an hour. Granted, there are some good tips on this DVD, but I have spent the past several weeks looking up bodhran instructional videos online (read FREE) that give just as much, if not more information, than this DVD does. YouTube has plenty of great people giving very detailed instruction on how to play the bodhran, so if you're new to the instrument, I suggest you search there first and save your money.

This is so helpful! Don't hesitate to purchase this if you're new to the bodhran, don't have any available teachers in the area, and you want to play it correctly. Very pleased

I loved this video! It was very clear and informative and it included a small insert with the rhythms that were covered in the video to follow along with. I have had instructional videos for other kinds of world percussion instruments as well but this seems to be the best so far. I recommend it!

This is a wonderful DVD! I have been playing the bodhran for about 6 months. I was using the DVD that was suggested to me when I purchased my drum. Needless to say, there were some issues. Within the first 3 minutes of this DVD, John solved my problems. He takes you step by step, and addresses any issues right away. He emailed me to let me know when the DVD was coming, and told me I could contact him with any questions. Of course, I haven't bothered him, but it's nice to know he is willing to help. I would highly suggest this DVD for anyone who would like to learn to play the bodhran.

Perfectly paced. Well done, clear instructions. It's wonderful in its treatment of everything from holding the drum to various tempos, tips for playing in a group setting.
