Schade.

Based on some reviews, I was concerned these pontoons would break on me the first time I used them. But after 6 months of abuse, they are still going strong. I have not had the needed to remove them since I installed them, so I do not know how well they stand up to removal. As far as walking performance these are solid. I have walked a good deal with them on a couple occasions and they have stood up perfectly fine. I use them with eggbeaters and the performance of the combo isn't nearly as good as that of a higher end, dedicated road pedal, but for me it is plenty: I have never had a problem of unclipping unexpectedly; it is easy to clip in and unclip at stop signs; and the versatility of a mtb pedal is unrivaled.

I was very happy to be able to put a pair of road shoes (with traditional 3-holes) to use on my cyclocross bike (which has eggbeater pedals) for some longer training rides. The fit and feel after installing the cleats was perfect, even better interface than with my MTB shoes and standard cleats.Unfortunately after even the first ride, just walking up and down the stairs (terrazzo and concrete) to my 3rd floor apartment and the removable tread was already substantially worn.During the third ride, a small construction detour made me climb 2 flights of steps in a park, and the removable treads completely fell apart, into 5+ pieces per cleat! Within 30 mins riding the pieces fell completely off, leaving 2 or 3 pieces per shoe. With large pieces of the tread gone, the shoes began to roll unexpectedly on the pedal, causing discomfort.I am a huge fan of the Crankbrothers pedals, but after less than three rides, these cleats were rendered unusable.

I bought these for my wife, who loves her Crank Brothers pedals but recently got a nice pair of three bolt road shoes. They work perfectly and my wife enjoys being able to use her Crank Brothers pedals with her new shoes. I have to take a star away though because the plastic pontoons that protect the cleat from walking are not very durable and began to crack after only a handful of rides and minimal walking. I would not mind this too much were it not for the fact that I am unable to find new pontoons for sale anywhere and I imagine that I will have to buy a whole new set of these cleats before it should be necessary.Great functional product on the bike with an annoying design flaw that makes them less than perfect.

I bought a road bike this summer and it had on it a pair of Crank Brothers Quattro pedals. I didn't know at the time that these existed so I was just use a basic cleat. I had a lot of discomfort with that setup. After some more research I found these and they solved all my problems. Easier to clip in and a lot more durable than other reviews led on.Great for walking around compared to cleats that didn't have the pontoons.I was worried these were going to fall apart based on reviews I read but I've had no problems with them. They were great for my century ride and every short ride I had in between.

Two rides after installing my first pair, the tread (the part that keeps the cleat off of the pavement or floor) broke into several pieces and two of the pieces fell off. I purchased another pair (it was that or purchase a different pair of $270 winter riding boots). In the process of installation of the second pair, the tread broke. I either need to get the $270 boots or throw away my $425 Crank Brothers pedals.Previously, Crank Brothers made a different road cleat with pontoons that lasted at least a season. I wonder why they stopped. I have been riding with eggbeaters since they were first introduced. They work great, but not with road shoes.

I got these cleats to allow me to use my specialized road shoes with my new egg beater 3 pedals. They let me do that, but the little removable horseshoe tread that gives you access to the mounting screws broke in to several pieces and fell off after about 5 rides. Also the cleats wont stay tight in the plastic plate. Bottom line, yes these let you use egg beaters with a three hole road shoe, but are not a permanent solution. Just get the proper recessed two hole MTB shoes. If you are riding CX or road, look for a nice stiff carbon soled XC MTB shoe.

I enjoy having eggbeaters on my road bike for my commute to work, because there are multiple lights along my rout and I need to get in and out of my pedals frequently. I don't enjoy the short walk into my office because I wear road shoes and with the eggbeater cleat I might as well be walking on ice. So I was excited when I saw this product because I thought my walking would be more stable. However, after my second ride into work the platform around the cleat broke and portions fell off on both shoes. My total distance ridden in the cleats was about 21 miles and total distance walked was about 100 yards (1/3 of that on carpet). There are cracks forming in the plastic platform remaining attached to the shoe. I weigh ~184 lbs, so this product might be just fine if you weigh less than I do. It is possible I just have a defective pair.

I bought these from Random Bikes. I really liked the 4 sided entry on my mountain bike of the eggbeaters 2. So i got the same pedals for my road bike. Then I found out that if you are using road bike shoes (flat on bottom) that your cleats for these are in danger of jamming because you wear them down when you walk on them. So these little devices work great as an adapter to your cleats to give them protection. The service at Random bikes was amazing. I had a small issue and they went above and beyond to solve it.
