This tow rope is a smart little helper for group rides. It’s easy to hook up and doesn’t take up much space in a bag or on the bike. I used it to help my nephew get up a steep hill and it made a big difference without making either of us feel unsafe. The stretch is strong and controlled and I liked that it retracts back when not in use. Definitely a good idea if you ride with someone who tires out easily.

The ELOOP Retractable Bike Tow Rope is a well-designed solution for family cycling adventures. Its retractable mechanism, featuring a Kevlar wire, ensures smooth towing without the hassle of tangling or dragging. With a towing capacity of up to 150kg, it’s suitable for assisting both children and adults on various terrains. The tool-free installation allows for quick attachment to the seat post, making it convenient for on-the-go use. While it excels in functionality, the price point is slightly higher compared to some competitors, which might be a consideration for budget-conscious buyers. Overall, it’s a reliable and efficient accessory for enhancing group rides.

Works well. I use it to tow my Inflatable dinghy from the campsite to the marina with my e-bike. It works flawlessly. Attaches well to my bike, and the loop hooks onto my boat well. I have zero complaints.

I decided to test this by towing my mother in law up a hill to give her a break on a recent ride and it performed well. it's pretty simple and straightforward. it does require the other person to steer while being towed but we had no problems on the very first use. hopefully i never need it but it's nice to know i have it if a chain breaks in our group.

The retractability of this item is kinda cool. The fact that it is not stretchy like some of the bungee versions is a definite negative. There is no forgiveness if your kid brakes or doesn't follow behind you perfectly. I think the item is actually quite dangerous. I also do NOT like the way it attaches. Their suggestions of just casually looping it around the kid's handle stem is not secure. I had to invent a different kind of way to attach it by making a slip loop. It's not an easy on and off because the slip over versions just don't work right. It would be great if you could easily slip over the kid's handle bars and keep the main base on the adult bike, but right now, it just doesn't work well. The instructions say you can also slip the the end over the tip of the adult seat...but then that string would become a g-string. No thanks.

Recently on what was supposed to be a relaxing bike rides with the kids, we encountered a rather inconvenient break down. My middle son's rear derailleur had become tweaked leading to a snapped chain while trying to climb a hill. This made me realize two things: 1. I really should bring a tool kit with us on bike rides, especially with a quick link and chain breaker tool. 2. I really need a way to tow one of the kids back to the vehicle if they do break down. Luckily we were only about 1/2 a mile from the truck, not 5 to 6 miles out on the local rail trail. So, I ordered some quick links and other bike tools/supplies and put them in my bike tool bag. I also ordered this nifty tow rope system and mounted it on my bike's seat. The first thing I noticed when opening it is it feels substantial and well-built. It also comes with a pair of high quality nylon straps with quick release buckles, and the unit itself has several slots that allow you to put the straps through allowing you to mount it in various different locations and orientations. I chose to mount it to my saddle, with one strap around the seat post and the other around the saddle frame. It's nice and easy to install and can be removed quickly. It's a spring-loaded mechanism similar to a measuring tape where when you pull the tow rope out you are winding up a spring that provides tension, and when you release it the tow rope is pulled back inside the enclosure. It works smoothly and the tow cord itself seems substantial enough to pull a kid on a bike without issue. The tow cord has a loop on the end and a rubber stopper to keep the knot from coming undone resulting in the court being fully pulled into the unit. There's also a nylon strap around the loop that is a bit more reinforced in case it's wrapped around something jagged. Now I haven't put this to the long-term test yet, but I'm sure the day will come soon since my three boys and have been doing a lot of bike riding lately. Initial impressions seem quite good, so I figure it'll work pretty well but time will tell.

This is a strange product. I've seen how convenient this type of thing can be when used with an e-bike, which is why I got it. I haven't had to actually use it yet, but I did some testing with my kids for this review. Firstly, installing it was pretty straightforward. I don't love that it takes room from my dropper post, but that's a trivial thing. The whole thing is well built, its obvious that there weren't any shortcuts in terms of quality. Hooking it to the other bike is where I'm conflicted. All 4 of my children's bikes have head clamps/bar risers that don't work with this, and the loop isn't large enough to open over my kids brake levers and wires. One of them is a name brand 29"er. I could have removed parts and made this fit better, but the convenience of putting it onto these particular towed bikes is definitely harder than putting in on my own. As such, I did the next best thing, putting it as far onto their bars as I could and we tried towing. The length was a bit odd, as I feel like I had only 1 pedal in before it was taut. This didn't provide either of us much time to react, and the fact that it wasn't mounted at the center meant that both kids fell before even getting a chance for me to react. Thankfully we were going slow in out driveway.I guess I'd recommend that you check to see if your towed bike has some protruding bits on the head clamp or something near it. Maybe get a soft shackle to put it around the frame if you don't have one.
