Now that I know more about fish and aquariums, I don’t think I would have bought this. It’s pretty but parts are expensive and the acrylic scratches easily. I hacked the design by cutting pond filter in a ring around the filter area. I then covered that with bihome media to make it a much more efficient and safe tank. Yes, read up on the “biorbs of death”. I purchased the biorb heater and it’s not great in fit and design but it does work. The air filter is very strong, maybe too much for guppies. My betta seems happy and warm. For what I’ve paid for this and the things I ended up feeling like I needed to make it better, I probably would have been better of with something else.Update: one year onward- it’s a pretty tank. Fish are happy. Kept up with the pond filter. The biorb heater went haywire and almost cooked my fish. Do not buy that addition! Buy the cheap one! I bought the cheap plastic bubbler that perplexingly costs a fortune but does make the bubbles smaller. So, yes I like it but it was a pain to figure out how to make it work best. Their accessories are bad and pricey buy other brand accessories when you can.

Out of the box the BiOrb is theoretically good to go with some very minor assembly. Everything you need to start is right there. I strongly suggest that you go to YouTube and access "BIORB COMPATIBLE UPGRADE KIT" by Pond Guru. It's a twenty-five minute video that breaks down the most common issue with aquarium. I understand that it's also commonly referred to as the 'orb of death' or 'sphere of death'.Do the upgrade. The filter upgrade kit from Pond Guru runs around $70 and takes forever to be shipped from England. Same foam filter material and similar biogravel (different shape and color) can be found at PetCo or on Amazon and it costs way less. Biggest loss is that you won't have the stencil Pond Guru provides for cutting the foam to size. You'll get over it. :)I've had the BiOrb15 up and running for over a year now. Relocated six fish from a cheap Fluval 5 gallon and added a Beta to it. All are still happy and going strong. 10 to 15% water changes every two weeks; thorough cleaning once a month. It is a very attractive product. It's spherical shape makes it appear larger than other five gallon tanks and still it's somehow very compact. Might want to consider spending a couple more bucks and get the BiOrb30. You might also want to think about the upgraded light. Enjoy.

We bought it so we could take our fish with us camping. A little pricy for that as we paid less for our 35gal. aquarium but it will serve as a staging tank when we need to take down the main.

I've only had my BiOrb set up for a few days so my review is based upon first impressions not longevity. The BiOrb 8 gallon was very easy to set up. It came with the initial chemicals for neutralizing and creating a perfect environment for your fish. I'm not one for reading directions so my husband directed me and we had it put together in 5 minutes. The pictures would have been sufficient for me to get the job done!Aesthetically the BiOrb is very pleasing in my opinion. More unique than your typical fish tank and more efficient than a glass fish bowl.Although I shouldn't have been surprised because #1 it makes sense and #2 I'm sure it's in the description - It's plastic not glass. I know...why would it be glass? As the time comes to clean and change the filter, I'll update my review if it isn't as easy as the initial set up.

Bought this tank for my girlfriend's birthday. huge, beautiful tank. Virtually silent. We bought a heater separately, it was a different make, however it saved us around £20. easy to set up and maintain, we have had fish before. But perfect for a beginners tank. No ugly filter to stare at which is an added bonus for me. As its contained in the tanks base. [around the air pump]

BiOrb is great, I went into a local aquarium and they was charging 135 pound for this and on Reef One was a much more reasonable price, the tank doesn't take up as much room as the oblong one I had before, the fish look happy well as happy as a fish can look. I was very pleased with this item
