As described, and simple to use. Lights up different when left, right, brake and parking light engaged. Only thing is you'll need another person to check in the back to confirm.

Glad I found this item. Thought I was going to have to change the wiring harness on my trailer. Found out it was harness in the vehicle. Easy to use, I just set up my phone on video at the rear of the vehicle and sat in the car to test the break and blinkers. Super easy to use.

Curt makes excellent towing gear, and this socket tester is no exception. I’ve used other Curt products, and they just work.

Plugged it into two different vehicles and got no lights. I cut the ground lead insulation flush with the pin as in the picture and noticed the inside was looking odd, almost rusty brown. I took a 3" spiral ardox nail and cleaned it a bit though you could use anything that fits in. Plugged it into a vehicle and voila I have lights. Now the issue that seems common in the reviews is needing 2 people to check if the lights work and what lights mean what. Plug the unit in and turn on your lights and hazard flashers. Walk to the back and you will have 1 light on steady and 2 lights blinking. If all the lights work you have operating trailer lights. To make sure it is wired correctly turn off the hazards and put your right blinker on, the LED on the right should be blinking, if so, everything is correct. This unit is to make sure YOUR VEHICLE lights are wired correctly NOT YOUR TRAILER lights.I have had Curt hitches and wiring kits installed on 3 vehicles and never had any issues over many years. I am a little surprised that I had a small problem with something as simple as a tester but in the end an easy fix. All's well that ends well.

Works perfectly. Great, inexpensive way to test your trailer light socket. I'd give it 5 stars except, it comes with zero instructions or markings on the tester, as to what each light means but, there are plenty of reviews that explain this. Great little tester.

Most of the curt trailer wiring does not come with a tester. So if you have to test it before attaching your trailer (u-haul, budget, home depot), then you're cutting it close if you need to do any repairs to your electrical wiring system. This exactly served it's purpose. During my move, I had shifted a lot of boxes and dislodged some of the electrical wiring. This little gadget helped me diagnose exactly where the problem was (loose electrical wiring with poor crimping) in the parking lot of my hotel. Having it was incredibly useful and doesn't take up a lot of space. This little guy is staying in my car as long as I still need to use a 4 pin connector for trailers and hitches.Value: 5/5Usefulness: 5/5Ease to install: 5/5Would recommend to a friend who wants to test a working 4-pin connector, attaching wiring for 4-pin connector, or for anyone looking to put a trailer/hitch on in the near future.

I highly recommend the CURT 58260 Vehicle Socket Way Flat Towing Tester 4-Pin Trailer Plug to test your wiring once you have installed the wiring harness if you are a DIY guy. Plus, you can route it into the passenger compartment, lay it over the back seats and actually know if you did made the right connections while driving around without the trailer. On an old hitch or trailer, as a diagnostic tool, it saves time and cursing, as it just plugs in to the hitch wiring. If it works, you know your problem is on the trailer, which, by the way, if it isn't a rusted to death bulb or socket, is almost always the ground. Look by the hitch for a green wire and give it a shake. Worth every penny of the two dollars it costs. I would buy one for each car and trailer I have. My only complaint, as for a first time user, is that there is no orientation as to what is left or right/driver or passenger side as you can invert it easily. The tab goes on the top and the plug goes in the bottom.
