I am a surgeon and also an amateur photographer. I print and frame my own images. Several of these images are printed on canvas and then they are framed conventionally or they are stretched on stretch bars and then framed without the use of glass. This is where this magic tool comes to life. I use the Black & Decker cordless scissors mainly to either divide the many images printed in just one sheet of canvas/photo paper or to cut the excess of the canvas when I stretch and then staple them into a wooden frame. I used to do all this using a sharp blade or scissors before. Since I saw this gadget being used by a good friend of mine I fell in love with how easy it is to cut any kind of material. It has been the greatest thing. The cordless scissors cut through canvas, mat boards and photo paper like nothing. It is a wonderful device. It allows me to do the cutting without any pain or difficulty. I used to use regular or spring scissors before.Needless to say the more cutting I did the more discomfort I had in my hands. Now all the excess canvas or photo paper is cut in just a couple of seconds with absolutely no effort and no discomfort in my hands.I have had no problems with the scissors. There is absolutely nothing wrong with them. The technology works wonders; the battery has never been a problem and the strength or power of the scissors jaws is more than appropriate for my needs.I strongly recommend these effective and inexpensive Black and Decker device to all those who use scissors to cut paper or materials.

I first read about this B & D cutter on a web sewing group. I went looking for a good price and to read customer comments. I watched the video in the comments page and wondered if it was a deliberate failure setup by a competitor because I thought it was so cheesy (yes I am a cynic on advertisements and commercial comments, too). I bought one from Amazon about two months ago and then found them a week later on sale at Target for $5 on clearance; so I bought two more in case I needed a blade change. It was cheaper than paying extra for shipping for a blade from DeWalt, right? (see comment on replacement blades) We did the overnight charging thing and cut a bunch of stuff. I noticed that if you tried to jam too much into the blades it would choke.I gave one to an elderly friend, gave a quick demo and let her rip on the heavy duty clam shell package it came in. She immediately did what the guy on the video did, jammed the blade into what it was not meant to handle and it choked. Of course she thought it did not work well -- operator error. I then carefully showed her where best to aim the blades, like next to the edge crimping where you can see the separation of the two pieces of plastic. It takes a little bit of visual planning to get the best out of this cutter on those clam shell packages. Not hard if you do a bit of observing. We haven't had a bit of problem using it on plastic packaging if we look to see where best to cut. No problems cutting paper, magazines, cardboard and other soft type plastic items we tried it on. Obviously it will not cut through a very thick magazine or telephone book in one fell swoop, but it will with several cuts. If your shredder won't cut up your expired credit cards, this cutter makes it a breeze. FWIW, it works better one at a time.It easily cut through the t-shirts we saved for the rag bag, to cut off the neck edging and side seams; made a fast job out of a whole bag full. I mainly bought this cutter to cut up jeans for a denim quilt -- it works great for that, by the way. If the denim cutting was my only project to use the cutter on, I feel it was worth the price for that alone. Too much scissor use and the arthritis in my hands and fingers acts up. Only a fellow sufferer can know what I mean about that.In addition, we really like the on/off button on the top. For safety we turn it off when we set the cutter down, that way there are no surprises when the handle and trigger button are grabbed, especially with kids like ours in the house. Our only problem is keeping it centrally located, as it keeps moving from one end of the house to the other. I wish it had a location buzzer like my house portable phone. The vote in my home was 5 stars from all users.UPDATE 8/7/2012:.. We have been doing crafting and these cordless scissors come in handy for cutting through the plastic of milk and water jugs, dish soap bottles, cardboard from dress shirts and cardboard boxes to make templates or re-purposing to another use. When we re-purpose a plastic jug and have to start a cut in the middle, for safety sake, I use a utility knife to start the cut and then let the kids follow the marker line using the cordless power scissors.

Greetings all ... I am one of the many unfortunate folks that developed Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, albeit industrial, it grossly limits my functioning everywhere. Tasks once taken for granted are now a chore or impossible. The discovery of these scissors has literally been a godsend! As previously posted, they do in fact eat through that hard plastic packaging like a 10-year-old through a pudding cup. However, they tend to stumble a bit with the hard plastic ridges. I have found that if you begin your cutting at the hole used to display the product, the ridges are avoided, and therefore not a problem. Also, as stated in previous reviews the price coupled with my current disability is what led me to purchase these. I too have spent more on lottery tickets and had nothing to show after. After 12 hours of charging nothing in my house was safe! I immediately purchased a second unit!!! Several months ago we had purchased a pair of motorized scissors, marketed by Singer for about five dollars less. When I read the ad claims for these particular scissors, I attempted to open a plastic package with the Singer brand scissors, only to have the blades literally explode from the tip of the scissors! We concluded that perhaps the Singer scissors were meant for fabric only!?!? These scissors on the other hand are genuinely hard-core. Again, their major limitation is the ability to start a cut over a hard plastic ridge. However, with minimal troubleshooting, you will figure out a way around this. As stated at the beginning of my review, I simply start at the hole meant for the hanging display. I highly recommend these for anyone who has issues with their hands or wrists, or simply want to take the effort and risk out of opening that hard plastic product packaging, which has actually cut me moderately to severely in the past. My only complaint thus far; is how to locate and acquire additional heads. Black & Decker are infamous for putting out a very cool device such as this, only to pull it from the shelves a year or two later. I learned this with one of their drills with the removable chuck. This particular drill allowed you to drill a pilot hole, remove the chuck by simply pressing a button, exposing a screwdriver head ready to go. This was a great idea, but is also not in their product lineup anymore. I guess drilling pilot holes is not in vogue in the 21st century? Given how cool the scissors are, and that they are literally an adaptive device for me, additional heads are a necessity. That is my only complaint. Otherwise, if you follow the directions and understand its realistic limitations, you will not be sorry about the purchase. I write very few product reviews, because I have to use voice recognition software, which depending on accuracy can be quite time consuming in the cleanup process. These scissors's, motivated me to fire up the voice recognition software and sing the praises of their usefulness.
