Box was all ripped, some of the parts with rust on it, looks like a used part, I just don't send it back because it's heavy, and will take a lot of work to prepare another box. Very disappointed.

Yes, it did take a little work to install this base plate. I had to drill 4 holes on each side but that's what's necessary to install a tow plate on this type of car. Very good instructions and well packed too. Highly recommend this item. -Jim

I recommend this unit, but it will not be easy to install. We have to keep in mind that the compactness of the car has a lot to do with this. Some of the the recommended location for drilling holes is not far enough. I had to file the head of some bolts and insert them where the nuts was suppose to be located to secure the plate. Also you should keep most of the bolts and nuts lousely fitted until the front base plate is in place. Other wise you may dammage the thread in the baseplate itself while trying to secure it, like I did.Overhall I recommend it, but plane at least 5 to 7 days to do it, for casual mechanic that is.

Great product, fit well with one exception. Brackets should be set back 1/2 inch rather than 1/4. Had to rework bolts to make fit. The item looks amazing once installed. Took all day with a few beer breaks!!

Parfait pour ma Smart 2011. Il manque cependant 2 bouchons à de la voiture. Toutes les saletés de la route y entrent et les tuyaux sont portés à rouiller.

Very unobtrusive, only a close inspection at a few feet reveals there's been a modification. I had the unit professionally installed (not by a dealer) on my 2013 Smart Car Brabus. (Yes, I could have done it myself and now my wife feels better that I didn't go through the stress of the project taking longer than I planned and not as simple as I thought. The relationship prospers even if the checkbook took a hit!) I chose Blue Ox because those 2 metallic pieces are the only things to be removed and stored when unconnected. The entire connection process is incredibly simple. The cables are installed as a disaster backup around the toad's frame to keep the tow bar attached in case of a catastrophe. Roadmaster has a large bar in addition to the frame mounted component on the toad and I don't want to drive around with that additional piece remaining on the car. The installers noted that Roadmaster owns the market west of the Rockies, Blue Ox in the east, and they as (independent) installers have no issues about either system. Both brands have had issues in the distant past and both have responded with improved design and engineering. Brand selection is a matter of preferences or the brand stocked and promoted by the dealer. Both systems are required by law to also have tow cables in place along with the tow bar when towing. Those cables come with the tow bar and are not the ones shown in this product's photo.

Installed perfectly however be prepared to disassemble all front body panels and remove from car to gain access for installation. Not a big deal on a Smart Car, just time consuming. This is not a quick install. Yet none of that reflects on Blue Ox...it is just the nature of the vehicle being a Smart Car...some drilling required. Best tow assembly on the market for any vehicle in my opinion only once assembled and coupled with appropriate tow bar.

Excellent delivery time. Suggest that installer glue the nuts on the rods to the inside of the side plates before bolting it to the frame. About 7 hrs install time. Most instructions were clear
