High-end fabric paints can be quite expensive. In the case of fabric paints, you often get what you pay for. If you aren't familiar with fabric painting, you are looking for a paint that stays soft and supple when applied to fabric. Those paints are acrylic, but if you try and paint fabric with a regular acrylic paint, not specifically intended for fabrics, you'll end up with crunchy material and designs that chip and break off as they become more brittle with age and repeated washings. A good fabric paint will leave your clothing soft under the painted design and will adhere to the fabric for years without splitting, fracturing, or flaking. The BLUEBIRD 12-PACK FABRIC PAINT IN PRIMARY COLORS is good FABRIC PAINT for the price. You set your painted design to your fabric with a hot iron after turning your garment inside out while protecting the opposite side of your fabric from bleed-through. This is basically the make-or-break moment when you find out if your fabric paint will soften up and adhere to the fabric without turning brittle or crunchy. I'm happy to say this fabric paint acted exactly how it should have. I have no idea how long these pants will hold up; I've washed and dried my painted pants several times without a problem. There was no transfer or bleeding of color either. The colors remain sharp and crisp. I think for nonprofessionals this is a very good choice for fabric paint.I do think you'll want to use a fabric medium to thin it down a bit. Straight out of the bottle, it goes on thicker than I like. I'd rather do more than one layer of paint than have it go on too thick in a single layer. Fabric can be difficult to paint on, and thinner layering will give you more control over your design. The other thought on this paint has to do with the colors. They call these primary colors in the product listing and title, but I know what primary colors are, and this isn't it. You get several metallics in gold and bronze and even brown and black. This is actually a good thing because metallic paints tend to look especially good on clothing items. If you're expecting primary colors, this has a really limited assortment of actual primary colors. Red and yellow, white, and a very pigmented phthalo green are about it for the primary colors. Most of the rest are darker or metallic. So if you're thinking you're buying primary colors, you need to know that this set has very few in it.Overall I'm pleased with this. It's not the best fabric paint I've used, but it is a far cry from the worst. Unless you're painting fabric for a living, I think most people would be happy with this assortment of 12 paints. It's a good value for the price. I definitely suggest you add a separate bottle of their fabric medium to your order to thin this paint down a bit so it's easier to work with. Why not give yourself the best chance for successfully realizing your painted design on fabric before you get started? Order the fabric medium, too!

This fabric paint is of excellent quality and a good starter kit. The set includes 6 sparkling metallic variations and 6 standard base colors. These paints are probably best suited for painting cotton-based fabric or synthetic blends. The paint is actually quite thick. It works best with a firm brush and flows readily, but you may need to 'push' the paint into heavier material by working it with the brush. If you need to use a fine detail brush or want a more transparent effect, these paints can be thinned with water. Place some paint into a mixing cup and add small amounts of water (while stirring) until you achieve the desired consistency. The metallic paints are beautiful hues of gold, copper, and bronze, featuring a generous amount of metallic flecks blended into each bottle (photo). Likewise, the 6 basic colors are bold and bright, which is an invitation to mix the colors in various combinations to create an amazing palette of possibilities. One final note: after the paint has thoroughly dried, you will need to 'heat-set' the painted fabric to ensure the paint is permanently fused to it. Refer to the instructions on the box for more details regarding the correct procedure.I'm very happy with this set of fabric paints. The quality is excellent and a good value considering the amount of paint included. It would also make a nice gift.
