I have never used Gesso or even heard of it before. This has been a new experience. I spread the gesso on a clean white pre-stretched canvas, carefully brushing it on in a thin, even layer. I added a second coat of gesso to even out the surface and it came out looking beautiful and ready for paint. I had jars of florescent acrylic paint that turned out to be a great match for this black gesso. Each brush stroke was impressive as the bright, glowing colors of the acrylic paint stood out against the jet black gesso. The painting I made was not very good, but the experience was an enjoyable one considering it was my first painting. I highly recommend this acrylic black gesso.

Good coverage on my canvases. Dries relatively quickly and has a nice matte finish. Good amount of paint for the money. Can’t complain about the value you get for what you pay for.

I ordered this gesso to cover wooden canvases. I decided to test it out on a smaller, oval wooden canvas. The photograph was taken 15 minutes after my first coat of gesso. I also tried a new brush and noticed too many brush strokes. The gesso is full to the brim of the container and does not need to be watered down, unlike other gessoes you can purchase. A little bit of gesso goes a long way. The gesso’s odor is mild. I noticed that the gesso was quickly absorbed into the wooden canvas. I plan to sand it down to smooth out the brush marks, and I will use a much better brush for the second through fourth coats of gesso. This is a good primer for acrylic painting.

Great coverage, nice rich and deep black color. It's nice to work with a black gesso instead of just white all the time, and can save some time and money if you would otherwise need to paint the canvas black first for the same effect. One coat generally seems enough though you can always add more to customize the texture a bit.

This gesso is good consistency, applies easily and offers good coverage. It dries fairly fast to a matte black. I got it to prep for pour painting where there will be a dark background. The jar is well sealed for shipping. It’s a good value.

This Gesso goes on canvas very smoothly. The black color is dark and covers completely. This is a large jar that will cover several canvases. I tried it out on a large sized canvas and it took less than a quarter of the jar to cover it.

A good bit of gesso in this enough to cover quite a few canvases. I tested it out on a 10" square canvas and the first coat got it fully black, but I did a couple more to get it to be a smoother surface. It took about 30 min to an hour to dry for a coat, which I think is pretty good, but I wasn't in a hurry. This is just thick enough hold well when coating, but not enough to make it a real effort. Cleanup isn't too bad but the black takes a bit of water to get out.
