Most converter failures can be traced directly to excessive heat. This accurate B&M temperature gauge comes with a light kit, color coded face, anti-glare enclosure, wires, terminals, sending unit and a T-fitting for easy installation.
From the Manufacturer
This remote oil thermostat will help maintain proper oil temperatures. When oil temperature is below 180°F, The valve bypasses 90% of the oil, allowing 10% to flow through the cooler to prevent possible air pockets. Above 180°F, the valve opens fully and flows 95% through the cooler.

The gauge was easy to install and works great. It's nice to know the temperature of the transmission while towing.

Best add on gauge in my cluster! Easy to read, accurate, and as "plug and play" as any I've seen. Temperature sender mounted directly into my Ford E4OD, no adapters required (even thought they were included). Back lighting is dated (not LED) but still functional and easy to see at night."Do you tow or run big tires on your older rig? They get one of these!"Note: If you have a 90's E4OD, your temperature sending unit will screw in place of a plug located on the driver's side, midship, upper hemisphere of the transmission body. A negligible amount of fluid may come out when you remove the plug, just have the sender (with teflon tape on the threads) ready to install.

when you buy a product from a reputable company, you expect all the components to fit and work as they are supposed to. I installed the t-fitting with lots of problems, first one of the nuts would not fit over the tubing (i used a drill bit to rim it), second the adapter for the sending unit would not thread (i used a file to fix it). Also one of the compression fitting did not look right, took a chance, so far so good. Now once i was done it looks like all is working fine, so far! Hope you have better luck!!! ps. I am a new Prime member and so far, "GREAT JOB!"

This item is set up to install in a transmission cooler line, rather than in oil pan where actual fluid temperature can be checked. While you are changing your filter and have the pan down anyway, drill a simple hole in a convenient location and use B&M 80250 Drain Plug Kit which directly accepts the B&M 80212 Gauge Sending Unit with absolutely no changes. I haul a large enclosed trailer behind my motor home, and knowing the transmission fluid temperature makes life much more relaxing. B&M should advertise how well these two items go together. A GREAT PAIR!!!!

works just fine and was relatively easy to install (it does involve cutting the return line on the transmission and installing the sending "T".) Mounting the gage inside is also slightly above novice stage because the holder needs to be on a flat surface. You also need to find a keyed fuse slot so the gage is activated when you turn the ignition switch. I just pulled the radio/cd fuse and put the wire inside the slot and secured it with the fuse. There are "piggy back" fuse terminals you can buy at an auto store that would be a better way to secure the wire.I'm sure there are a lot better gages out there, but this one had all the necessary parts to do a complete installation and was the most cost effective. I'm not sure how accurate the gage is, but it does give you a reasonable measurement of how your transmission is doing heat wise. If you do a lot of towing it is probably a wise move to get an indicator of whats going on. The main "killer" of transmission life is excessive heat. Having a gage to monitor your transmission heat can tell you something early on and maybe prevent disaster down the road. ps if it runs above 200 deg., it will likely need a transmission cooler or a secondary cooler. (also pretty easy to install and not too expensive)
