The actual cleats are only slightly magnetic, meaning they are likely stainless steel and have gained some magnetism through cold working of some sort. I can’t actually pick the cleat up with this very strong rare earth magnet but it is clinging slightly as you can see in the picture.BUT! The supplied mounting nuts and bolts and screws are most definitely NOT stainless steel as they cling to the magnet with great strength! So if you don’t want rust marks all over your deck, buy new stainless hardware.

I ordered the 8" cleats for our boathouse. We have 3/4 dock lines so I wanted fairly large cleats. These cleats are heavy and substantial, with appropriately sized screws. East install and the feel very secure and solid. One note. The stainless finish had a couple of minor flaws in the finish (rough edge and a minor scratches on the edge), so if you were buying these for strictly decorative purposes you should watch for that. Otherwise the finish was nice and shiny. Good price for large stainless cleats and the 4 pack is even a better deal.
