How to Use:
With a threaded fitting for fitting onto a conventional boat handle. You can simply push through the ring of a buoy, then when the gate closes on the hook and is pulled back the rope on the hook will grab the ring allowing it to be pulled towards you.

The design of this hook requires the loose clasp to hook on one end, release, and then hook on the other end. But there is nothing to ensure that the piece stays within a channel so that it will actually catch on the other end, so it just falls off when you try to use it. I practiced several times at home, trying different angles and tension, but never got it to work consistently. My guess is if I tried it at the dock, the loose piece would just fall off into the water.

Works well, lightweight and simple. Much easier than hanging out of the boat to reach the buoy. Try at home with a lightweight line attached to crossbar. In use tie the mooring line to the thin crossbar line, make sure the knot is small enough to thread through buoy eye.The crossbar can separate from fork, need to practice. Maintain tension on the line to avoid separation.The sheetmetal parts are stamped and have sharp edges, needed to round off all edges with a Dremel tool to avoid cutting hands, or threads in the line.The telescopic rod is nice, lightweight, easy to handle.Have a traditional boat hook handy until you feel comfortable with this. I have used better designs before.
