I recently built a swim platform for my boat and needed to get a telescopic undermount ladder for it. In all honesty this ladder was not my first choice. I had my eye on another that was a bit wider, locked in place without the need for the bungie cord and also provided a bit more clearance between the mounting rail and the ladder itself. However it was more than 4 times as expensive and I couldn't justify it for the minor added conveniences and I'm glad I went with this one. The ladder seems to be well constructed and the telescoping rungs fit nicely into each other. I really like the fact that the bungie cord that retains the rungs when not in use is permently attached to the ladder as some I looked at used a piece of velcro for the same thing however they were not and I'll guarantee they'll be lost in short order. My one complaint with this ladder is going to be with the installation. The ladder is designed to be mounted to the platform with the screws provided which screw through the mounting holes from the bottom up. I would much prefer to through bolt this to the platform from the top down (for aesthetic reasons) however there isn't enough clearance between the mounting rail and the ladder as it is rotated up to the storage position on the last mounting hole for much more than a head of a screw. Once the ladder is parallel with the mounting rail that isn't as much of an issue so I'll most likely have to use the provided screws on this first hole. Other than this one problem I really do like the ladder. I hope the bungie cord lasts for at least a few years since it is going to be subjected to water and sun but should it fail I'll come up with another way to keep the ladder in the stored position. With regards to rust and corrosion, the ladder is purported to be made from stainless steel and since I only boat on fresh water lakes I don't expect to incur either.
