This is a standard bassoon bocal brush. It is long enough to work with contrabassoon bocals as well.So why not 5 stars. I would prefer if the little nib at the end was covered as well I worry it will scratch the inside of the bocal, and as the bocal I use most often is fairly expensive it is a preference. This can be overcome by pulling the brush thru rather than pushing it, but this, along with the "S-Shaped Tube" keeps it keeps it from getting a perfect score; it should refer to it as a bocal or crook. It is recommended to use a bocal brush rather than a bocal swab as the swabs can rip and get stuck in the bocal, especially with higher end bocals, such as Heckel's, where the whisper hole extends into the bocal. I know some that brush out the bocal every time they play, but you should do it at least once a week if you play daily. The bristles seem stiff enough to clean and yet not so stiff as to scratch. This brush can also help clean out coffee pots with narrow spouts.Every bassoonist should have at least one.
