Although I understand that top skaters use low-cut racing boots, I feel that these skates are a great compromise between fitness skates and low-cut boots. The slightly higher rise over the ankles means that these skates don't cut into your ankles. Any reduction in push is compensated by allowing for more comfortable, longer sessions. Even as a new (and senior at age 71) skater, I wore a pair of these at last year's NSIM in Duluth and was able to skate a 1:34 marathon in pouring rain. Highly recommend these skates.

These are so lightweight it's insane. The wheels are pretty much the only part that weighs anything and they are massive!I've never used these types of skates before so trying to skate in them was a challenge for me. Because they are so long it is very difficult to turn with. I don't have many issues with stability even though they are lower cut than normal skates and much higher off the ground. I guess my ankle strength/stability is at least decent enough.I will likely play around with putting on smaller wheels like 110mm or less. If I can find a frame that is more like a standard fitness skate (or similar) with 3 or 4 wheels (72-100mm wheels) that will work with the 195mm frame mounts, I'll definitely be trying that out on this boot for the benefit of weight. Otherwise, these may be too difficult for me to use and enjoy...Instructions would have been nice for some people that don't have the immediately know-how to do so without Instructions. The rear screws don't exactly go into the frame properly as one review points out. However, if you put the screw in the frame where it is supposed to go and then use the wrench to screw it, the threads will grab the frame and pull it down through it enough for the whole screw to get into where it is supposed to be. Don't be afraid of stripping the threads doing this! It wont strip, just go slow and the head of the screw will be able to slip under the part blocking it once you screw it through the frame.

Most comfortable skates I’ve ever owned & they fit like a glove. I wear a size 10 US but I purchased the 9 1/2 in the Bont boot since size runs different with this brand. I recommend ordering a half size down then your actual shoe size.

I wish I started off in these when I was a beginner speed skater. Would have saved me a lot of time and money looking for boots that help build strength in weak ankles and/or learning good technique without ankle flop. I use these to train in now and prefer them over my custom Bonts. A good buy for the money if you need more ankle support when training.
