Out of the recent book books I've done, this one is one of the best. Except for one of the pieces breaking after I tried to install it and the wiring all tangled up, it came together quickly. And it's adorable with the corgi figurine

This book nook brings a sleek touch to any bookshelf, enhanced by its vibrant, lighting that adds a unique sense of depth. The materials are solid, with acrylic elements that make this kit feel high-end and distinctive. However, it’s definitely a challenge— it's rated the difficulty it has for good reason! The instructions are fairly clear, with images that do a decent job of guiding you, but the process can feel meticulous, if not tedious. It’s not for beginners, but it’s definitely manageable if you have some experience with intricate assembly and gluing small parts.Speaking of, if you have your own tools and glue, I'd suggest using them. The included glue isn't great, and takes forever to get tacky/set/dry. The other tools are serviceable, but basically dollar-store grade. The kit itself is a lot of laser-cut boards, mostly assembled by attaching pieces to one another "tab a to slot b" style. Intermittently, you'll be running wires and stringing the LEDs, affixing and sealing them behind a piece, or underneath something so they're out of sight when the finished product is lit.Overall, working on this kit was really enjoyable, and I was impressed by how easily each piece came out of the boards without any struggle. The completed book nook is truly eye-catching and adds a dynamic touch to any room or shelf. Highly recommend this kit for those looking to add a stylish, modern element to their space—this one definitely stands out!

I love assembling book nooks. I've done over 3 dozen different book nooks by now, and I just don't seem to get tired of them. This "Twilight Cottage" book nook is very typical for the materials and assembly experience, though it smelled less than most do on opening, which was a nice change. It comes with the usual tweezers, B-7000 glue, and sanding stick. It does not come with batteries--also typical. Most of the components are in wooden sheets and a sticker sheet, but they have a few cloth and regular paper-like items that you will need to cut/glue basic shapes from too. Dust covers are provided for all openings, which is very nice given how many are part of the kit. Instructions come in a reasonably-sized booklet that's mostly easy to read. The wood sheets with pieces are easy to read the labels of too, though I did get confused on which piece went with which label a few times. The material quality is solid. I didn't have wooden pieces splitting or falling apart on me. The cloth items frayed some, but that's expected with cloth. As for the assembly, it really was straightforward. I started yesterday morning and finished assembly before lunch today despite multi-tasking managing kids and other various responsibilities. Yes, I slept too. They designed things fairly well. There is some jumping around between wooden sheets, but for most assembly steps, the majority of your items are from the same sheet. I did have to use glue far more than expected since most pieces were cut loosely, but I don't mind this, and I think it sped up the process since I didn't have to stop to wrestle two stubborn pieces together or shave one down to make it fit. I don't like the smell of B-7000, but it's quick to work with. In any case, the order of most assembly steps also made sense, though I did change it up on occasion for situations where I was expected to glue pieces to something that would be harder to reach after placing it in the book nook. I just glued them first and then placed it!I did forget some steps, including the round wooden dowel going in the roof crack. Somewhat ironically, I lamented there wasn't anything to go there when assembling it, and then realized they HAD planned something to go there that I missed when I realized I still had the wooden dowel at completion. Whoops! It's still a lovely piece though.I did some extra steps to make it nicer for me. I used a dark brown marker to color in all the white breakage lines on the wooden pieces. I grabbed a translucent glass bead with a 5mm hole to serve as a lampshade for the loft's light bulb since I don't like exposed lights in my book nooks. I took the backup piece for holding up the skylight, colored it brown all over, and glued it to the floor just in front of where the main dust cover goes so it couldn't be pushed backwards into the book nook. Just little touches to make it nicer. I also glued the bottom connection of the book nook together though the instructions say not to. I didn't want the dust cover falling down and leaving the front partially exposed.Overall, it really was a pleasant experience, and I love how it came out.

I give this 4.5 stars. I had a lot of fun assembling it. It was not too taxing on my brain, but it kept my mind and hands busy. The instructions need some improvements. There were a few parts I found a little confusing, a few areas with missing details, a few errors, and a couple things printed so small and slightly blurry that my young eyes couldn't read them. But, I made it through and figured things out. You do want to pay attention to the instructions and their details so you don't mess up which direction things need to be facing when you assemble them. People of any language should be able to get through the instructions which are mostly pictures (color drawings) and the letter-number combos to tell you which pieces to get. Figuring out which lights go where might be the hardest part to interpret for someone who can't understand written English or, I'm guessing, Mandarin Chinese. There are a lot of pieces, including a ton of tiny pieces, and there are some fragile pieces. They do give you a tool to help punch them out. Most aren't too hard to punch out, but you do need to be careful. Also, I recommend setting your workspace up to help contain all the little pieces and keep them from rolling onto the floor and disappearing. I nearly lost some pieces. There are a few extras of some pieces, but not all of them come with backup pieces to replace lost and broken ones. Don't punch out pieces you are not going to immediately use. In the end I had a number of extra pieces (that were intentionally extras) and none were missing. For some reason, this comes with a lot of extra mini books--I just went through when I was done and placed them wherever I felt like it. As for the pieces I broke, I just used the glue to put them back together again. There were even a couple I intentionally broke and glued back together to make assembly easier. Also, you get to decide if things need to be glued that the instructions don't say should be glued. I recommend gluing things down that are on the bottom level. This project does require glue, which is included, but most things aren't assembled with glue. It works well and there is more than enough. You might have to hold things together for a minute after gluing. Put the lid back on right after you are done using it. It also includes tweezers which you can use to help maneuver small pieces into places. I think I used them mostly to help me disassemble pieces that I put together wrong because I wasn't paying enough attention. There is also a file. You will need it to file down the knobs that are too tight of a fit for the holes they are supposed to fit into. I also used a knife (not included) to widen some of the holes (perhaps not the safest thing one could do). This book nook requires hand dexterity. You need fine motor control. You need to be able to pick up and handle tiny pieces (and those tweezers won't help you with everything). Even the provided tools and glue are small. My hands have inflammation issues and I would not be able to do this in one long sitting because of my hands--it did make my hands hurt a little. The LED lights that are included all work in mine. There is no on/off switch, but a sensor at the back of the top of the box. You can see the spot where you tap to make the light go on and off (make sure to glue it in the right place on the underside). I'll admit, I was too dumb to figure this out on my own. The lights are not super bright (not like in the product pictures) and they are most effective when you are viewing it in the dark. The battery pack can be accessed through a little door in the back. This does not come with batteries. You will need two AAA batteries. The box is completely enclosed with clear plastic covering the front, so it won't get dust in it.I think this product is of decent quality. It is so fun to get to see all the fantastic details. There are even details that you can only appreciate as you are assembling it because they can't really be seen once it's put together. Whoever designed this put time and effort and care and creativity into it. There are a lot of different things to look at and for people to discover and enjoy as it sits on your shelf. This product is not for kids. It is labeled for adults, but some teens will definitely enjoy putting this together, too (make sure they are responsible enough to use the glue safely).I'd be willing to buy another book nook from this company.
