What is a Capacitor?

A capacitor is a passive (it consumes, but does not produce, energy) two-terminal electrical component. In building a sound system for your car, you would want to use a capacitor for a couple of different reasons.

Why Do I Need One?

The main reason a capacitor is always recommended is for power reserve. The capacitor stores energy and releases it very quickly to the amplifier(s).

How Does This Help?

Music is dynamic, no matter what type you listen to, and the dynamics can vary quickly, going from soft voices to thundering bass notes. These moments are where the benefit of having a capacitor is heard. The amplifier requires a constant amount of steady power to function efficiently and power the speakers. A capacitor will keep the power going to the amplifier consistent and stabilized, which means a better-sounding system.

Important: The remote output of the head unit is connected to the remote turn on of the capacitor. The capacitor will not function if the remote wire is not connected to your head unit.

I bought this on march 20 2012 it worked great for 5 months but for some reason the thing blew , sounded like a blast of air, and started beeping like crazy , it wasnt hot when it blew but was hot after I disconnected it, I guess I'll have to get a better one. Good parts ain't cheap and cheap parts ain't good.

I never even got to test this capacitor. The posts are so cheap they broke off at the circuit board on top of the capacitor. I was moving some things around during installation and SNAP! All it took was a little pressure to break both posts since they're attached to the clear plastic top. The plastic top was stronger than the metal posts!I had read other reviews that said the posts were cheap, so I knew about it going into the purchase. I figured if I was careful when tightening the battery cables to the posts, I'd be okay. I was careful and didn't have any problems until I thought I was home free. LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE. If you're still going to purchase this, BE CAREFUL until you have everything up and running.

I was skeptical at first because of the cheap price, but this is a quality product. I followed the directions exactly when I installed it. My system always sounded really crisp when I first turned it on, but kind of lost that crisp sound after about a minute. After installing this it is always crisp sounding now.

This capacitor works great. I was kind of confused when i bought my capacitor, so here's a tip on you're selection. 1 farad will handle 1,000 watts of RMS power. Which means this will handle 2,000 watts of RMS power. So you don't really need to worry about peak power, which is what i was thinking. When i got this capacitor installed and charged, it discharged after i turned my car off. But i charged it again, and it hasn't discharged for about a month now. So overall, this capacitor works great and is a wonderful addition to you're audio system.Update: I've been using this capacitor for about a year now and it's discharged many times. Whenever it's working, it's great. But it discharges about once a month for me, and I don't want to recharge it all the time.So I bought a Power Acoustik 5 Farad capacitor and i'll see if it works better. This cap isn't too bad, it just loses it's charge all the time.

It does what it is supposed to do at a good price. No need to pay for a big brand name like RF for twice the price.
