The rack itself functions if you want to hold your boards and skis, but it doesn't operate the way you expect it would. It requires the key to open and close the clamp, not just to lock it. The key needs to be turned to a certain position in order for the clamp to release and open. The clamp also needs to be held down with extreme weight to close, and then the lock needs to be turned, or it will reopen the clamp by itself. Does it function? Yes. Is it easy and convenient? Absolutely not.

July 30, 2023 - BougeRV asked me to review their redesigned ski rack. A full review complete with video will be coming but for now I must say that I am very pleased with the redesigned product. I have installed it a couple of times, added skis and snowboards, driven several hundred miles to the beach (yes, in the summer with snow skis on top, lol) and so far I have not had any of the issues I had with their older model.Original Review: "Locking mechanism is junk. We had a difficult time getting it open but were able to do so and get them mounted on the vehicle. Put skis in rack and one was difficult to close and lock. Arrived at the slope and had to work a long time to get one open. When we departed the slopes the front one would not open and I finally gave up but was able to slide the tails of the skis thru the front rack and close and lock the back.When we arrived home I had to use a crow bar to force the racks open to get the skis off and get the racks off my vehicle. I returned them the next day.They also made a loud noise when empty on top of my vehicle (2022 Kia Telluride) but of course this could be dependent on the vehicle and its aerodynamics."

I bought this item in preparation for a ski trip to Quebec. I used it once in Halifax and one of the locks broke. Now it is impossible to lock it when carrying any skis. Basically I have to throw it away and get a new one for my trip.

Terrible rack….lock broke on installation and doesn’t close over skis properly. Horrible customer service from company as well. DO NOT BUY.

I like the ease of installation and especially like the slide out function of the lower rails. It is easy to put our snow board and skis on top of our Yukon XL.

Die Skiträger kamen rechtzeitig an. Beim Auspacken ergab sich ein gemischter Eindruck, allzu wertig wirkten sie nicht. Was mir negativ auffiel. Die Produktbeschreibung bei Amazon war von einem Übersetzungsprogramm in schlechtem Deutsch abgefasst. Bei einem so sicherheitsrelevantem Gerät wie einem Dachgepäckträger wirkt das auf mich wenig sorgfältig und damit auch wenig vertrauenserweckend. Beim Durchlesen der Rezis anderer Nutzer war ich dann einigermaßen schockiert. Offenbar hatten sich bei mehrern Nutzern der Skiträger während der Fahrt vom Dach des Autos gelöst. So etwas kann andere Menschen in Lebensgefahr bringen. Zudem ist es extrem ärgerlich und bedeutet oft enormen wirtschaftlichen Schaden. Da mehrere Rezensenten dieses Problem schildern, bitte ich um Verständnis dafür, dass ich diesen Gepäckträger nicht auf mein Auto montieren werde. Das erscheint mir angesichts deren Erfahrungen als viel zu riskant.

Wanted to like this, but 3.0 is not very user-friendly and I will likely be returning.#1: The button to release the latch requires you to push down toward the ground.... which keeps the rack pushed down. If you let go of the button, the latch re-engages, so a second hand is required to push up on the upper part of the rack, while the first hand is still pushing down on the button... All while there is no decent area to grip to push the upper part of the rack up to release the upper part of the rack.#2: Key will not remove from the lock while in unlocked position. This means you have to *unlock one rack, *turn the key back to the lock position, *go unlock the second rack, *load your gear, *snap one rack down, * lock that rack, *go to the other rack, *snap that rack down, *lock that rack. It would be really nice to be able to have the racks unlocked, but still latched (especially if you're already parked and have your gear with you). We even tried unlocking both racks, loading gear, and snapping the racks into place without having to use the key again, but alas, the latches will only engage while in the unlocked position, so multiple trips between racks with the key to unlock/relock are still required.These racks simply are not user friendly. They require multiple steps to use, neccessitate the use awkward/non-ergonomic movements, and are still pretty pricey. Most definitely would not buy again, would not recommend at this point, and will likely be returning.

Installed for 3 hour drive - installing was quick and easy.Slide out feature is nice makes loading easy.Loaded 3 pairs of skis - rack would NOT close or lock! Tried several times. No way this would close with 6 pairs like the description says!!!Separated into 6 skis and STILL took over 30 minutes to get it to close and locking is not easy- the mechanism is super finicky.Drove 3 hours and after the day was over and reloaded - AGAIN IT WOULD NOT CLOSE OR LOCK AND THE LOCKING MECHANISM OF ONE FELL OUT!!!!! Had to put skis in the car over peoples heads !!! DO NOT BUY!!

Terrible product. If you try and close it with more then a single pair of skis it will not stay closed. Quality is equally as bad as design. One of the locks fell right out of the ski rack and was completely unusable.
